Walsh captures Seaforth Invitational with p ayoff birdie
The weather did exactly what it
was supposed to do taus pal Satur-
day , and provided a petfoct day of
golfing for the field of 200 inter-
national golfers at the 1990
Seaforth Goll and Country Club
Men's inv itauoual tounuunwu. An
international turnout traveled to the
Seaforth club, but it was arca golfer
Brad Wash of Stratford who won
the day, playing off to a low groats
score of 67 agauist London golfer
Tom Faulds. Walsh clinched the
utle with a birdie on the fust extra
hole over Faulds, who captured first
thio low gross with 67.
Seaforth golfer Rick Wood
walked away with the low net over
the field for the day, scoring 63.
Otter top scores for the day
included K. Adderly (87), Low
Bermudian and Brad Rosiar, with
the Long Drive tide for numbs 4.
Closest to the flags were Devon
Hamilton (03), Toon Faulds (010),
Ron Steeper (113), Ken Moon
(015) and Todd Doig (116).
Organizers are pleased with the
turnout for the annual uwuatsonal,
which this year hosted golfers from
Bermuda, England, Scandinavia and
the U.S. along with a host of On-
tario golfers and a healthy local
field of 50 Seaforth and area gol-
fers.

Recreational tap dance classes may �n
The Seaforth Recreation and
Parks Committee are now accepting
nominations for the ANNUAL
CITIZENSHIP AWARDS. These
awards are presented annually to
three volunteers in Seaforth in the
following categories: SERVICE
TO SPORTS - A person that
volunteers his or her time to sports
organizations, or sports in general
in Seaforth. CIVIC SERVICE - A
person that belongs to a service
club or community organization in
which he or she contributes many
hours of time for the betterment of
the community. HUMANITARIAN
SERVICE - A person who is con-
siderate of mankind, and is willing
to give his or her time to help other
people.
Nominations for these awards will
be accepted at the Seaforth
Recreation office until Friday, Oc-
tober 19, 1990. These awards are
chosen based on the individual's
contribution to the community in a
volunteer capacity. For information,
please call the Recreation office at
527-0882.
Seaforth and District Minor Hock-
ey Association will be hosting a
TRAINERS CLINIC on Monday,
October 15 beginning at 6 p.m. at
the Seaforth and District Com-

noon at the Seaforth and District
community Centres from 1:30 to 4

The Seaforth Recreation and
Parks Commiuee would like to
invite everyone to attend a
Workshop on VOLUNTEER
RECRUITMENT. If you belong to
a group or community organization,
and are having trouble getting
volunteers, this workshop is for
you. The Workshop will be held on
Wednesday, October 17 1990 at the
Seaforth and District Community
Centres from 7 to 10 p.m. Admis-
sion fee will be $5 per person and
coffee and muffins will be served.
The workshop leader is Karen Ross
of the Central Volunteer Bureau of
London. If you are interested in this
evening, call the Recreation Office
at 527-0882, for registration or
more information.
The 10th Annual TERRY FOX
RUN for Cancer will be held on
RECREATION noc�v7�+�ir PREVIEW
by (Recreation Director) Marty Bedard
Sunday, September 16. The run,
walk, ride, will be held at the Van
Egmond House starting at 10 a.m.
Pledge sheets can be picked up at
any Seaforth Bank, Town Hall, the
Post Office, the Recreation Office
or a variety of downtown mer-
chants. For more information on the
day please call the Recreation office
at 527-0882.
FITNESS IS FUN will be held
again this fall beginning on Tues-
day, September 25 from 9 - 10 a.m.
The morning classes will be Tues-
day and Thursdays, and the evening
classes will be held on Wednesday
from 8 - 9 p.m. beginning Septem-
ber 26. The Recreation Department
will offer a babysitting service for
all the mothers that would like to
take the morning classes. A small
fee will be charged, for this service.
Registration will be taken on the
first day of classes. For more infor-
mation please call the Recreation
Office at 527-0882. If you require
the babysitting service, please call
one week prior to the start of clas-
ses, so that a sitter can be arranged.
The Seaforth Lioness Club would
like to invite everyone out for their
YARD AND BAKE SALE on
Saturday, September 15 at 8 a.m.
This sale will be held at the Lions
Park Pavilion. Come out and get
some bargains.
The Seaforth Agricultural Society
will be having a GIANT YARD
SALE in the new show barn on
Saturday, October 13 from 8 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Any interested vendors
wishing to reserve space can do so
by calling Lois Hodgen at 527-
0046. A 14 -foot space will cost $8,
and each vendor must supply their
own tables.

their child in RECREATIONAL
TAP DANCE should call the
Recreation Office at 527-0882. If
enough interest is shown, a class
will be held at the Arena on Satur-
day Mornings.
Seaforth groundskeeper hangs up his rake
A mixed trebles tournament was
held at the Seaforth Greens on
September 2, at 1:30 p.m., and
Seaforth teams made a clean sweep
of the prizes.
First prize, sponsored
by Etue Insurance, went to Fred
and Betty Tilley and Theo Van
Bakel with 3 wins and 49 o/p 2. In
second place were Art and Mary
Finlayson and Grace Broadfoot, 3
wins and 36. Third prize went to
Sandy Pepper, Eileen Adamson and
Dorothy McCluskie with 2 wins
and 40 o/p 2. Fourth went to Lee
Ryan, Carol Carter and Bill Brown
with 2 wins and 38, and the Con-
solation prize went to George Hil-
debrand, Thelma Cooms and Carol

Seaforth's final tournament for
the season will be held September
16 at 1:30 p.m., the annual Fowl
tournament.
The annual meeting was held at
the club house with twenty-five
members present. The new
executive for 1991 will be:
President - Edna Bell; 1st Vice -
Tom Phillips (tentative); Secretary
Treasurer - Betty Tilley; Assistant
Treasurer - Mary Finlayson; Assis-
tant Secretary - Marie Muir; Social
Convenor - Jean Pinder; Assistant
Social Convenor - Grace Broadfoot;
Press - Mary Finlayson; Tour-
nament Callers - Fred Tilley, Gord
Beutenmiller, Mary Finlayson and
Eileen Adamson. Other standing
committees were also appointed.
Concerned over the Annual
Report of Lawn Bowls Can, a leuer
will be sent from Seaforth to the
District chairman asking for a
representative from the Provincial
level to explain the Report at a
District meeting.
Socials will again be held during
the fall and winter months for
members and associates on the
fourth Tuesday of the month, 8
p.m. at the Seaforth Orange Hall.
Neil Bell, the club greenskeeper
the past three years, has tendered
his resignation as of September 14
1990. A vote of thanks was ex-
tended to Neil for his services by
past president Jack Muir and social
convener Thelma Coombs.
Competing in out-of-town tour-
naments, six Seaforth bowlers were
at Lucknow men's pairs tourney
last Wednesday and two ladies
teams attended the Wilma Kerr
Memorial at Wingham with Carol
Carter and Thelma Coombs taking
third prize. Sandy Pepper and Eilien
Adamson also won the Consolation
prize at Wingham on Saturday.
