The correct statement should have read; "A prime commitment of mine is to agriculture and to the continued success of the family farm. The Premier's commitment to agriculture provides the means to deliver on this commitment. His $19 million Rural Ventures Program, announced recently here in Huron (Exeter area), is solid proof of this commitment" Our apologies for any misunderstanding this error may have caused. The stem of each glad must be 40% covered with blooms (any bud displaying colour is considered a bloom), and the top and bottom of the plant must each measure 30% of the stem length. Kinks in the top third of the stem will also detract points from your gladiola, and the blooms should travel the stem in a perfectly alternating pattern. Also surviving are brothers Ken, Joe and Glenn of Bayfield; sisters June Heard of Seaforth, Audrey Payne of Bayfield, and Shirley Wachhuas, Kingsville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Barbara Pitblade (1985). Following Bob's wishes, his body was donated to the University of Western Ontario for research. At a memorial service in Wingham, expressions of sympathy were accepted for the Huron -Perth Lung Association. Mr. John Gnay, a former colleague, delivered the eulogy in a service conducted by Reverend Grant. After completing his education at Bayfield Public School and Clinton District Collegiate, Bob graduated from London Teacher's College. He spent several years as an elementary school teacher and principal, but it was at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham that his dedication and caring for his Oc- cupations students earned the respect of all who knew him. A gifted scholar himself, he could inspire each student to summon up the best that was in him, and prepare himself for life with pride and dignity. Known for his sense of humour and love of language, Bob was a master at producing a well-turned phrase. Acknowledging the progres- sive damage of emphysema, and accepting the fact that his remaining time was short, he wrote these lines for inclusion in his eulogy: "In baseball, I drove so many people home, they called me 'The Chauffeur': and now, 1 have rounded third and am heading home 4 myself." One final smile, albeit shakey, for those who loved him. Unique, a good man, and never dull, Bob is mourned and remem- bered in love by family, friends, colleagues and a legion of former students whose lives he touched.
