Bayfield pavilion spark memories
MAPLEWOOD MANOR
This month at Maplewood,
residents have enjoyed a summer
outing each week.
On Saturday August 4 residents
went to the Blyth theatre to see
'Fire fly'. This play was about a
telephone operator in a small town.
May Habkirk, (a former telephone
operator), was particularly
interested. Thank you to volunteers
Marj Maloney. Anne Downey and
staff members Debbie Dillon and
Ruth Duffey.
On Thursday August 9, residents
participated in a day trip to
Bayfield. The day was perfect and
we were able to watch many
beautiful yachts sailing into the
harbour. Two little children, who
came along on the trip Lindsey and
Michael McClure, were more ex-
cited about testing the water. Pete
Tremeer helped them out and didn't
mind getting his shoes wet.
Everyone agreed that Bayfield's
boutiques and condominiums are
lovely but the old dance pavilion
sparked the liveliest discussion.
After a stop for refreshments in the
shady park, May Habkirk directed
us around her favourite Lake Huron
area, Paul Bunyan. Before we left
Bayfield we purchased fresh white
fish for Friday's dinner.
The next week on August 14,
Maplewood had a barbecue and
smorgasbord supper. The cooks did
a terrific job of barbecuing the
smoked pork chops and filling the
tables with colourful and delicious
salads. The residents helped by
cheering on the cooks while they
barbecued.
Then on Thursday, August 23,
residents were on the bus and off to
Goderich for a day trip. This time,
the residents picnicked at St. Chris-
topher's beach. Everyone enjoyed

Lottery funds help people with disabilities.
Sharmila lost a leg to cancer
when she was six years old. With
the help of a prosthetic leg,
Sharmila is able to skip and swim
with her friends.
Helping people with disabilities
is just one way lottery funds
are used.
Lottery funds are also used to
provide grants in other areas such

as sports and recreation, arts and
culture, hospitals, and province -
wide charities.
This is how Lottery funds are
working for you in your area.

walkuig along the boardwalk as
well as walking along the water's
edge, while Mary Malone and Ag-
nes Hunter tried skipping stones in
the water. Later in the afternoon,
some residents went for a tour of
the Goderich Jail while others went
to the Huron County Museum.
Thank you to volunteers Anne
Downey, Greta Kerr, Kevin Mac-
Donald and Jason.
This week, on August 30, a group
of residents are going to Kitchener -
Waterloo sales barns.
Residents and staff held a presen-
tation of a gift for W.O.W. student
Jeff Tunny, with Ann and Hugh
Benniger surprising Jeff with a bird
house and card signed by everyone
at Maplewood.
Maplewood Bingo on Friday
afternoons is well attended. Winners
this month were: Minna Scott, Pete
Tremeer, Olive Smith, Hazel bil-
lion, Ann Benninger, Grace Titford,

Maplewood.

Pullman of London, Lois Sloan of
Toronto and Mary Nigh of Seaforth
for vacation stays. Also, we were
pleased to have family members of
Evelyn Willis, Jenny Turnbull and
