B Y SUSAN OXFORD
This past weekend the 25th an-
al vorsay of the Satan's Choice
Motorcycle Club was celebrated
with an tnvuatlion-only pony new
Sebriasville. The Sebringvtlle OPP
were Joined by Distract Su OPP
officers and augmented by Waterloo
Regional Pohcc to keep the
situation under control and 37
charges were laid against Club
members. The throe -day -long sen-
timental affair was at the Eaathope
farm of Club member Manual Silva
and was open to members,
including former and retired.
Roger Dumas,iinnggville OPP
"Ifolic informations oafrcer, said,
t's the first time the Satan's
Choice Motorcycle Club had a
party here. In a round -about way
we learned of the location of the
party. A situation like this is always
a concern. Not only are we dealing
with a motorcycle club, but we
have to be concerned for the safety
of sightseers and locals. There were
a few sightseers. The locals handled
it pretty well and went on with their
own business."
At the highest point of the party
there were 150 Club members
congregated at the farm. Police set
up a RIDE program and laid five
liquor violations and two impaired
driving (on motorcycles) charges.
Under the Highway Traffic Act
police laid charges for various
matters such as helmet infractions
and uu mufflers on bikes. Under the
Criminal Code there were two
charges for stolen property (anoro-
rc yc) and one charge of
threatening a puiic a officer was laid
against Mr. Silva,
Seaforth Police Chief Hal Claus
said none of the Club members
came m Seaforth. Claus said
"About 10 years ago some Club
members had a piny at a pit north
of Seaforth and some of them went
to one of the local hotels. Attu
their party they headed north out of
town."
"It was a gwct Weekelld in
Seaforth with some windows
broken at a Railway Street
warehouse and windows broken at
Main and Jaynes Streets early Sun-
day mooning. We (Seaton!) Police)
did get complements from some of
the out-of-towners attending the All
Ontario Mite Championships."
Drunk driving ruled
out in fatal crash
BY SUSAN OXFORD
Although Goderich OPP are still
investigating the August 12 car
accident that killed five young
ppeeoopple, including Jeanne Saldivar,
Skaffa, they have no new infor-
mation.
Sergeant Chuck Vessey said a
number of factors contributed to the
early morning accident. Test results
from Toronto to determine the
speed the vehicles were travelling at
are not in.
"It doesn't look like they were
travelling over the speed limit," said
Sgt. Vessey. "They may have been
travelling far below the limit. It's
hard to tell.
•
"The weather (dense fog) may
have been a factor and the driven
were young and may have been
inexperienced. The alcohol that
showed up in their blood and may
have slowed down their reactions is
certainly a factor.
"'There's accidents that are simply
accidents and there's drunk driving
accidents, and this was simply an
accident. It's tragic, and unusual,
that everyone involved died. We
may never fully know what hap-
pened night on that spot of
road."
When possible Goderich OPP will
be stepping up its RIDE program
with blitzes of roadside checks.
