game wau off without a hi/tdt, sad
m fact ran a bit read of schedule,
with all but oane of the eight invued
teams finding their way to the
Scatcr h diamonds. ds. through a
misunderstanding, Ms Gravenhurst
team thought that the tournament
was this coming weekea>rd, and was
a no-show. However, reports
Seaforta Mite coach and tournament
organizer Graham Nesbta, the tour-
nament was Lone the worse for
their absence and the softball was
top calibre.
The St. Mary's Staffers Selects
were crowned the new Mita 'C'
champions on Sunday afternoon
after defeating consolation c
Clifford in the final 101-7.117.
Mary's pitcher Mart Bell struck out
19 bourn in seven innings in the
championship game, and also
cracked ih a triple and two singles
in his at -bats. Bell also slammed in
two homeruns in the previous St.
Mary's game.
Seaforth was in on the action
bright and early on Saturday mor-
ning, facing the 1989 All -Ontario
champs from Napanee at 9 am. at
the Optimist Park diamond. Making
their O.A.S.A. debut, the boys were
"a little tight" in the game against
the Napanee powerhouse, remarks
coach Nesbitt.
"We were a little nervous in the
fust game," says the coach, then
reconsiders. "Big -league nervous."
Facing a seasoned team and a
blistering Napanee pitcher who
knocked his own catcher off of his
feet with every throw, the Seaforth
Mites had trouble getting their bat
on the ball. First baseman Karl
Reynolds knocked in a home -run,
and Seaforth finished the game on
the wrong end of a 19-2 score.
Their second game against Stit-
tsville was a great improvement,
says coach Nesbiu, and Seaforth
had the lead a number of times in
what was a "tight, up and down
game" highlighted by Seaforth
catcher Eve re u Smith's K -Ar
boonct. Seaitxth wind n't ray

Final figures for the tournament
have not been tallied yet, but or-
ganizers estimate that between 450
and 500 baseball fans took in the
games over the weekend. Money
raised from the tournament will go
to minor sports in Seaforth.
"We had a good reaction from all
the people from out of town," says
Mr. Nesbitt.

Take notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Seaforth,
has passed By-law Number 27 - 1990 to designate the following pro-
perty as being of architectural and historical value or interest under
Part IV of The Ontario Heritage Act, 1980, R.S.O. Chapter 122.
57 HIGH STREET
REASONS FOR THE DESIGNATION OF
57 HIGH STREET
BOX RESIDENCE - Built in 1927, the Box Residence is a very in-
teresting example of the Queen Anne style dwelling with Identifying
features such as the corner turret and characteristic wood shingles.
The building includes original exterior panelled wood doors on both
the front and the side of the residence, as well as, Interesting decorative
garlands over the windows of the front bay
Of particular interest are the decorative finials on the roof; and the use
of cast stone in the foundation and porch supports - which is a rare
use of materials in this style of structure. The fluted doric columns at
the front porch and the leaded window heads add delicacy to the
building's overall impression.
