'"nae Laic was a good, solid,
dependable aircraft. It wasn't very
comfortable mind you but it was a

The fust airplane Wallace ever
went up in was a Lancaster.
"1 was serving cm ground crew in
Winnipeg when I got a chance to

thought that one day 1 would be
flying them," he recalled.
Mclanson served as a pilot with
Search and Rescue Unit 103 out of
Greenwood, N.S. from February '53
to March '57. He flew 251 hours
on the Lancasters, which were
pulled from his unit in late 1954
and sent to a new station in Torbay,
Nfld.
"In doing a search we completed
a pattern which was called a
"creeping line," he explained.

entirely completed. "I can tell you
right now that the only approved
facility that would take the waste
now is Ottawa."
Crutcher told the board that a lot
is still contingent upon land transac-
tions, and a deal has yet to be
signed between the board and the
land's owner George Lavis.
"Practically speaking, come
January 1 there has to be a place to
put the waste that is currently going
into the site," said Bye. He noted
other sites, such as one in Essex,
where the board could take garbage
in an emergency situation, if the
MOE granted the board an emer-
gency certificate.
Goderich Commissioner of Works
asked if more waste could be put
on the top of the existing landfill
site, and Crutcher told him it was
physically full, and the MOE would
still have to be petitioned for an
expansion. He did say the board
might be granted 15 days of con-
tinued dumping at the site after the
Dec. 31 deadline.
