lop Masters of Safety was bold on
June 24, 1990. It opened with the
recital of the 4 - H pledge and
answering the roll call, which was
"What is one safety rule to keep in
mind while working with
chemicals?" One answer was "Wear
protective clothing"
Thai Barb Forest read the
minutes, and members found a title
page which Kim Diego' had made.
Members discussed Achievement
Day, July 29th at 7:30 in Brussels
at the Public School.
Members did an experiment on
the parts of a fire. A jar was placed
on top of a candle that was lit.
Pretty soon, the candle used up all
the oxygen and the flame went out.
The club team& that fire needs
three things to survive: air,
(oxygen) heat, and fuel.
Family Coalition
• from page 1A
people. The W ingham salesman
typifies the FCP's belief in the
family unit as he has been married
for 29 years, and has seven
children.
His acceptance speech centred
on the importance of the family,
and of Christian values.
"There was a time in Ontario
when the Conservative and Liberal
parties defended Judeo-Christian
values. They defended the family,
they defended morality," he said,
adding that there has been a
complete turnaround over the last
25 years, and the other parties are
now attacking these values and
beliefs.
He cited that fact that religious
education, morning prayers, and
the Bible have been taken out of
the public school system. In the
system, he said, there is no God,
no devil, and there are no ab-
solutes. The children, he feels, are
told to do what they like.
"So, when they get to their
teenage years, they act like the
devil; they are taught by the
devil," Mr. Clark stated. "The
public school system is in a
shambles."
He added that all of his children
attend a Christian institute in
London, but -many people can't
afford to send their children away
for Christian training. For th'.
reason, he said he would like to
see Christian schools across the
province which receive funding
from the government.
Although it may seem humanly
impossible to have a FCP member
in Queen's Park, Mr. Clark told
his supporters that "humanly" is
not a concern, as they are working
for God's beliefs.
"The Family Coalition Party is
the only party that believes there
is a God, there is hell, there are
absolutes."
He noted that people with good
Christian values, who don't
believe in abortion, will still vote
for the Liberals, the Conservatives
or the New Democrats, just
because that is the way their
fathers or grandfathers voted. He
urged these people to break the
pattern, and support the FCP.
"We need support, we need
workers, we need money, but
most of all, we need prayer," Mr.
Clark said, as when people get to
heaven, God won't ask them if
they ever won an election, but if
they were good in their time on
Earth.
Caribana
• from page to
True Rastafarians are quiet
religious people who are Jamaican
in origin and do not have a tradition
of Carnival as expressed by the
Caribana activities. Pseudo ras-
tifarians have sprung up over the
years who mimic the hairstyles and
have given popular image not quite
in keeping with that of the true cult.
While it is entirely conceivable
that in a crowd of such a size, some
personal unpleasantness may have
been experienced, to state the
"thousands of (young men)
glared with cool hate' is a mis-
representation of the attitude of the
majority of revellers who par-
ticipated in this Caribana
celebration.
Ms. Oxford's comments regarding
Islam and Christianity could
provide the basis for extensive
volumes of discussion. I trust she
will find out as much as she can.
I am writing this letter because it
is relevant to present the other side
to the social comment presented in
this article. The relevance lies, not
in discussing the Caribana
celebration, but in the reporting of
feelings and facts.
Patricia Rodney.
