Centenaires to meet more teams
The Seaforth Centenaires will
play more games in more places
this season. The Ontario Hockey
Association's Junior "D" League
has been shuffled about, so that
instead of three divisions of six
teams, it is now made up of two
divisions each with nine teams. The
Centenaires will compete in the
Western Division against teams
from Port Stanley, Lambeth, Mt.
Brydges, Belmont, Alvinston,
Mitchell, Lucan and Exeter. Tavis-
tock, a traditional rival, shifts to the
Eastern Division, with squads from
Paris, Wellesley, Ayr, Burford,
Delhi, Langton, Ohswekcn and
Thamesford.
"It will mean increased travelling
costs but hopefully this will be
offset by increased interest because
of more variety for both players and
fans," says Centenaires' general
manager Gregor Campbell. "We
will play each of the other eight
teams in our division five times for
a total of 40 games. We all flipped
for the extra home game."
Another new wrinkle this season
will be overtime. A full five-minute
stop -time overtime will be played if
teams are tied after regulation time.
The winner of that overtime will
get two points in the standings, and
the loser one point. Both will get
one if the tie stands.
Ten of Seaforth's 20 home games
will be played on Friday nights,
nine on Sunday afternoons and one
on a Sunday night. the Seaforth
Juniors open on the road at Port
Stanley on Saturday, September 29,
and return to Seaforth for their
home opener against Lambeth on
Friday, Oct. 5. They have an ex-
hibition game against Exeter at
Hensall on Sept. 21 at 8:30 p.m.
Training camp opens at Hensall on
Sept. 16 at 8:30.
