well in this series despite a home
loss. We seem to have trouble on
our own turf." Robinet added that
the win has inspired the Merchants,
but something had to. The team
recorded only four wins in regular
league play - but in playoffs won
twice in one week.
"After beating Exeter we feel we
could beat our next opponent and
do well should we make it to the
provincial final," he concluded.

St. Columban Under-17'sto finals
St. Columban went to Exeter on
August 11 for their playoff tour-
nament, which saw St. Columban
meet Lucan in the first game at
9:00 a.m. Early morning dew made
everything slippery, but the St.
Columban team came out strong
and built a 2 - 0 lead on goals by
Steve Ryan. St. Columban settled
down, and Lucan replied with a
goal to make the game 2- 1.
Lucan then was awarded a penal-
ty shot after a great play by John
Moylan, saving the ball from going
into the net. Mike Coyne made the
save on the penalty shot, and Steve
Hicknell added his first goal of the
game on a breakaway to load St.
Columban 3 - 2 at halftime.
The team scorned to have
everything under control at
halftime, with Steve Hicknell
scoring his second goal of the game
to establish the game for field and
gave up tow quick Lucan goals for
a 4 - 4 tie late in the game.
St. Columban then came back to
life when Steve Ryan scored his
third goal of the game to give St.
Columban a 5 - 4 lead with not
much time left. St. Columban was
awarded a corner kick, with Steve
Ryan crossing the ball to Steve
Hicknell. Hicknell headed it into the
net, ending the garlic with a b - 4
win for St. Columban.
Great defensive plays by Kurt
Lindemonn, Scan and Scott Vosper
and John Moylan helped in the win,
which has put the St. Columban
under - 17's into the final game of
the year in Lucan, coming up on
August 25.
Special thanks to the parents and
fans who watched the game, and to
coach Bill Vosper for A JOB
WELL DONE.
