Alvin and Vera McDonald greeted worshippers at Duffs United Church, Walton on Sunday mor- ning. The service was conducted by the minister, Rev. Bonnie Cole Arnal and her sermon was "The Hidden Treasure". Offering was received by Nancy Godkin and her father, Lavern Godkin. This is the last service till the first Sunday in September as the minister is on holidays for the month of August. In the announcements, Bluevale Anniversary, Sept. 9 with Rev. Stan McDonald preaching. Walton's 125 anniversary, Sunday, Sept. 23 at 11:30, with special music, speakers John King. Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell have returned home form a week's holiday with relatives in the west. Mrs. Ruth Thamer celebrated a recent birthday with relatives on Sunday when they met for a picnic at the trailer at Klondike Park at Grand Bend. Clint and Judy Emmrich, Jamie and Katie returned home Saturday from a camping holiday at St. Agusta, Ohia this past week. FIRING UP THE TOAST - The Van Egmond House foundation had a fundraising breakfast July 29 and a better day couldn't have been possible. EILEEN MacRAE 345-2842 Don and Eileen MacRae have recently returned from an enjoyable motor trip to the west coast. While there, they visited Don's niece and husband and three boys, Link and Jo-anne (Hatton) Byfield in Edmon- ton, who he had not seen for 10 years. Congratulations to our newest newlyweds, Kirk and Paula (Ro- bson) Purdy, who were married on July 14th and Rob and Jody (Maloney) Brown, who were mar- ried this past Saturday, July 28th. Get well wishes to George Ducharme, now of Mitchell but formally from this district, from all your friends. George suffered a heart attack two weeks ago, and is a patient in Stratford General Hospital. Philip Flanagan from Toronto has been visiting recently with his sister, Mrs. Katie Murray, for a wekk. Also with Mrs. Murray last week were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mason from Uxbridge, Frank and Louise Maloney from Kitchener also called on Katie Saturday and attended the Maloney and Brown wedding. Also with Millie during the week were Larry and Lina Murray of Toronto and Mrs. Lizzie Hart of Barrie and daughter Catherine of Stratford. Pat Murray, son of Ron and Theresa Murray, has been invited to play for Canada in the Goodwill Games in Seattle, Washington. Canada won the first game against Sweden, 4-3. Pat will be in his fourth year at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan this fall. The games are televised on TSN at 11 p.m., by the way. A bridal shower for Barbara Eck- ert, Toronto, was held on Sunday at the home of her parents Joe and Olga Eckert. It was planned and given by her sisters Rose Borys- wick and Norah Eckert, sisters and cousins and aunts were present from Newmarket, Toronto, Strath- roy, Chatham, Stratford, Mitchell and Egmondville. Many gifts were received, and Barb expressed her thanks to all for attending and gifts. Get well wishes to a sister Nancy Story, who was ill and unable to attend, was also offered. Sisters Mary from Chatham and Sister Margaret Rose from Strathroy also called in to wish Barb happiness. David and Sharon Pelling, Meaford, and Ron and Julie and sons Clifford and Michael Davidson from Scarborough spent the weekend with Don and Eileen MacRae. Also, Mark Pelling and girlfriend Stephanie, Jack and Denise Kelly joined them for the annual family Turner reunion in Mitchell on Sunday. Our mother, and grandmother, and aunt Mrs. Ada (Turner) Davidson is the last surviving Turner sister of the five sisters, is a resident in the Ritz Villa, and was enable to be with the group due to poor health. Chad Wolfe, Mitchell, is holidaying with Grandma Eileen and Don MacRae. Also, grandson Joey MacRae, Dublin, is visiting. David Diegel, Seaforth, has been holidaying with his friend, Joey MacRae. Staffa woman wins award Staffa Correspondent MRS. JOHN TEMPLEMAN 235-2346 Lorne and Helen Fell, Roger, Joyce ,and Pauline have returned home from a motor trip to Edmon- ton, Alberta. While there, they attended the Canadian Seed Growers' Associations National Convention. Duncan and Joy Scou have returned home from a holiday in the Dakotas and Manitoba. While in Manitoba, they visited with Graham and Wilma Jean Wark at Killarney. Joyce Fell has received word from the Western Ontario Conser- vatory of Music that she was awarded First Class Honours, in her Grade Nine piano examination. She is presently spending a few weeks in London, studying music history at the Conservatory. An excellent crowd attended the chicken B.B.Q., held at the South Hibbert ball park on Thursday evening. John and Roberta Templeman visited for a few days with Pat and Joanne Donovan and family, Mathew and Kelly at Val Dor Quebec. Rob and Bev Templeman and family, Carrah, Cain, Cohen and Colbey, holidayed this past week at a cottage at Johnson Harbour, near Tobermorey. R S.O Chapter 122 SHORT STATEMENT OF THE REASONS FOR THE PROPOSED DESIGNATION BOX RESIDENCE - Built in 1927, the Box ReSidsrtOs is a very interesting example of the Queen Anne style dwelling with identifying features such ae the corner turret and characteristic wood shingles. The building in- cludes original exterior panelled wood doors on both the front and the side of the residence, as well as, interesting decorative garlands over the windows of the front bay 01 particular interest are the decorative finials on the root, and the use of cast stone in the foundation and porch supports - which is a rare use of materials in this style of structure. The fluted done columns at the front porch and the leaded window heads add delicacy to the building's overall impression. Chapter 122. 19 SPARLING STREET REASONS FOR THE DESIGNATION OF 19 SPARLING STREET PUTSCH RESIDENCE - Built in 1895, The Pletsch Residence is of red brick construction, and is notable at the exterior for the ornamental gables incor- porating heavily carved brackets and trim. The curved cast -stone window heads are of a unique design for this area, as are the curved stained glass window heads at the living room and upper hall. The opening to the front porch features a keyhole window. Of particular interest is the exceptional interior front hall and trim which includes a leaded cut -glass front door, stained glass transom, sliding doors into the living room which have etched and handpainted floral motifs, 2 stained glass windows on the north wall of the stair, one of which may be associated with the tradesman who prepared stained glass for the local Presbyterian church. As well, there is also exceptional detailing on the woodwork which includes a fully panelled stair, twisted spindles, ornamental surrounds for windows and doors with fan motif corner blocks, carved newels, and spin- dle work in the arch containing the sliding doors into the living room. The house also, is associated with I.V. Fear, who was involved in the foun- ding of the first telephone in Seaforth. Dated at Seatorth, this 10th day of July, 1990. Upon application by the Owner, and after consultation with the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, the Seaforth Town Council granted their consent to repeal the designating by-law, as the original intent of designation was on a voluntary basis.
