After all of ha planning and hard work, the weather man dealt a knockout blow to bet men's golf tourniunentlast Saturday. Aha a couple of holes she had to call the game orf but hopes to reschedule u sir meu ne in September. In the meantime, there is a mixed scramble coming up on July 28 at 2 p.m. at our local golf course. Maybe the weather will co-operate. It has come to the attention of our Padre Frank Golding that there are Funeral Memorial Services available for Associate members of the Legion if the family desires. We hope none of our younger will have to avail themselves of this, but it is there if you should desire it. It is forty-seven years last week since the Canadian Army invaded Sicily. That action in Sicily and Italy seems to come and go with no mention in papers. Canada had two divisions in Italy, and a lot of ow Conirades lost that lives in the ltaliiui and he buried w ceinicttries afar by the War Graves commission. The Ladies Auxiliary are holding another of their popular Sunday Dinners this Sunday July 22. They hope to see a good turn out again. OBITUARIES JEAN LUELLA DAVIDSON Jean Luella Davidson of McKillop Township, R.R. 2, Seaforth, died at Clinton Public Hospital on Monday, July 16. She was 86. The former Jean Lawson, she is survived by her husband John Davidson and a son, Andrew, of McKillop Township. Also surviving is a brother Lorne of Seaforth. Mrs. Davidson was predeceased by three brothers, Roy, Earl and Les, and by a sister, Myrtle Busby. Friends will be received at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on Wednesday, July 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and on Thursday, July 19 until 2 p.m. when funeral services will be held at the funeral home. Interment Baird's Cemetery, Stanley Township. DOROTHY ELAINE McARTHUR (BEER) Dorothy Elaine "Babe" McArthur of Edmonton, Alberta and formerly of Hensall, died suddenly on July 7, 1990. She was 55. She is survived by sons Mac (Ralph) and Cameron of Edmonton, and by a brother George Beer of Hensall, sisters-in-law Lucille and Lillian. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Joan, a brother John, and parents Frederick and Hilda. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Medical Research Fund of choice would be ap- preciated. JOHN GIBSON MADGE John (Jack) Gibson Madge of Hensall, formerly of Exeter, died on Thursday, July 12, 1990 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Landon. He was 81. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Russell, of Hensall. Also surviving are daughters Marion and husband Andrew Dougall of Hay Township and Phyllis and husband Basil Crawford of Exeter; son Keith and wife Doreen of Thorndale; grandchildren Robert, Helen, Cynthia, Sylvia, Janice, Joanne, Darla and Dennis; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Lacey of London and Mrs. Mildred Jones of Exeter. Mr. Madge was predeceased by one grandchild, Brian. Friends were received at the Hopper -Hockey Funeral Home, Exeter, on Friday, July 13 until 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, when Funeral services were conducted. Interment Exeter Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. OLIVER GEORGE YALLOP Oliver George Yallop of Hensall died at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Thursday, July 12, 1990. He was 76. Mr. Yallop is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Scotchmere, and his son Jim and wife Kathy of Lombard, Illinois. Also surviving are a brother, Bar- ney Yallop of Toronto; brother-in- law Toni Scotchmere of Guelph; and sisters-in-law Eleanor and .hus- band Jim Black of Belmont, Irene and husband Joe Wild of Clinton, and Anne and husband Bob Wal- lace of Egmondville. He is also survived by nephew Ray Yallop of Toronto, niece Ellen Yallop of Angus, and others. Interment Bayfield Cemetery. TANNJS GWEN SMITH Tannis Gwen Smith of McKillop Township died on Friday, July 13, 1990. She was 18 months old. She is survived by her parents, Terry and Vera Smith. and sisters Dana Marie and Kimberley Anne. Mso surviving are grandparents Mervin and Marlyn Smith of Wal- ton and Arie and Sybilla Van Diepen of Goderich; and great- grandparents Harold and Mona Wilson of (Milia, and Flora Smith of Beaton. A private family service was held at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on Monday, July 16 at 2 p.m. Interment Fgmaidville Cemetery. She has been a guest with Mrs. Marion Peebles of Lon- don. Recently, Mrs. Peebles was hos- tess for a party in honour of Leonard Noakes's birthday and cousin Melita's visit. Forty guests were present and enjoyed a lovely afternoon. Melita's grandmother was the sister of the late William Sangster and Jame Sangster Sr. Hensall Summer Playground is into it's second fun -filled week. Last week's activities included a dinosaur day, Martian sandcastle building and presentation by Ryan Good of Exeter about his trip to Bangladesh. Yesterday, the children were bussed to Huron Country Playhouse for a wonderful matinee performance of "Girls can't Pitch". If you wish for your child or children to attend playground for one or more weeks, contact the village office to register or visit the Village Playground Staff at the park between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.. The Hensall Branch Library will be sponsoring two fun -filled the summer Reading Theme Read - it, Read -it". The first of these will be held on July 26 at the Library. See you there for stories, games and crafts. Brad Hartman of Hensall and his grandmother Lois Caldwell of Grand Cove Estates, returned last week from a two week trip to Canada's West Coast. They spent most of the time visiting with their Uncle and Son, Mr. Christie Windle and friend Nanci of Gibsons, B.C. The Two toured Vancouver, visiting such sights as the Vancouver Zoo and the Science Centre which is located at the Expo '86 site. A trip to Whistler was popular, as was a train -trip on the restored Royal Hudson. Brad, Lois and Chris were gifted by Nanci with a flight in a four -seated Cessna aircraft and followed the coastline for a scenic and enjoyable outing. Lois and Brad stayed for three days in West Vancouver with Mr. Mrs. Ernie Racz. Rita Racz is a friend of Lois's from Lachine, Que. and the two had no seen each other for 17 years. SHUFFLEBOARD RESULTS Hensall Shuffleboard results for July 10 are in, and the hightest shuffler of the day was Dave Woodward with score of 384. Also scoring were Dave Kyle (463); John Pepper (452); Jack Consiu (415); Dorothy Brintnell (394) and George Dowson (344).
