Surprise party caps
45 years of marriage
A surprise 45th wedding anniversary celebration was held in Pickering
at Saturday, June 23 for Elgin and Mae Young of Roxborough. Twenty-
five friends, family and relatives helped them celebrate the joyous
occasion at the home of their eldest son James (Jim) in Pickering. The
Myottes from Michigan travelled the furthest to attend and took the
couple completely by surprise. An evening of fellowship and
reminiscing was enjoyed by all.
Elgin and Mae Young were married in Wiarton 45 years ago, and
owned a feed mill in Terra for a number of years before moving to
Roxborough, just outside of Seaforth, 21 years ago. Mr. Young was also
the Reeve of Terra, while Mrs. Young worked in the mill office. On
moving to the Seaforth area, Mr. Young took up the post of Retail
Division manager at Topnotch, where he retired from 10 years ago.
Mrs. Young worked at the Bank of Commerce for 11 years.
The couple has another son, Robert (Bob), who lives in Wasaga
Beach, and four grandchildren. They are enjoying good health, and look
forward to many more years of happiness together.
When asked to kiss his bride at the anniversary party, Elgin rose to
the occasion in a manner that brought applause from the whole group,
a touching moment that turned the clock back 45 years.
