est man in this part of the country died
at Goderich on Friday, aged 100 years
and 7 months. Deceased had been a
resident of Goderich for many years.
—In the Township of Culross from
Jaeuerg 1st to December 15th, 1905, the
total receipts were $13900.21 and total
'expenditure, $1157 99. The township
has aseets of $31.6.31 and liabilites of
41374.77.
—Mr. Hugh Hamilton has resigned his
position as caretaker at the school. He
has not been enjoying the hest of health
and finds the work too heavy. The
Secretary is advertising tor applications
for the position.
—The Wingham Curling Club have re-
ceived an invitation to compete in the
Fel'„ ue Bonepiel on January letb, 17th
and 18th. It is probable that a couple
of rinks will take advantage of the op-
portutity of visiting that famous curling
town.

—John Doig, of Carrick township, son
of Mr. Paul Doig, Howick, dropped
dead last Thursday on the adjoining
farm of his brother-in-law, Mr. John
Inglis, while in the act of rendering as-
sistance on the farm. He was in his
46th year and leaves a widow and fami-
ly of five}.

Homestead Regulations.
Any even numbered section of Dominion
Lends in Manitoba or the Northwest Provineea,
excepting 8 and 28, not reserved, may be home.

the extent of onc•quartcr section of 110 acres,
more or less.
Entry may he made personally at the local
land elute for the district in which the land is
situate. or if the homesteader desires, he nmv,
on application to the Minister of the Interior,
Ottawa, the Commissioner of Immigration,
Winnipeg, or the local agent, receive authority
for some one to males entry for him.
The homesteader is required to perform the
conditions connected therewith under one of
the following plans :
(1) At least six months' residence upon and
cultivation of the land in each year for three
years•
(2) 11 the father for mother, if the father is
deceased) of the homesteader a e side :4 upon a
farm in the vicinity of the hind entered for the
requirements as to residence may be satisfied
by such person residing with the father or
mother.
1:31 If the settler has his permanent residence
upon farming land owned by Hint in the vicin-
ity of his homestead, the requirements as to
residealee may be satisfied by residence upon
the said land.
