The Wingham Rifie Team was in God -
oriel on Thur :day and Friday last, tak-
ing part in the shooting at the opening
of the new rib • range in the county town
where seven teams were in competition,
and some goodtahooting was done. The
Wingham tea',- succeeded in landing
first prize, for ;he best tett men in the
33rd (Huron) Regiment, and second
prize for the best ten men in Harem
County Leagn , being only one point be-
, hind Goderich Township team, who won
. first. Sergt. Carrick carried off first
prize for high st individual score, and

• class, A. M. •rawford took first,' and
Sam Elliott se+,ond, add Mr. G, Nichol -

in the same co npetion, for men who had

Improvements in Wingham
Many improvemei tg of a public nature
are being pushed feeward in Wingham
at present. The ft et we will note the
improvements bele ; made at the G. T.
R. yards. The del ils of these impro-
vements were given 'n the TIMES some
months ago. Work as been commence
ed and it is expected ,hat the new build.
Ings and other work will be completed
this fail. A new statio t house and freight
sheds will be built, and the present
freight shed will be oved to a new lo-
cation in the yards, d will be used
exclueively by the fu niture factories.
New sidings, new ca le yards, a new
engine house, are on the pro ramme.
These improvements ill be welcomed
by the people of Wing m. The water-
works extension is ano' er improvement
that is now taking up tae time of a num-
ber of workmen. The laying of the new
water mains should De completed in
three weeks. The oe-nent foundation
for the standpipe is no -v completed. Mr
Green is hard at work with his force of
men at the new oemen flume, In digg-
ing for the course of t flume much old
lumber, slabs, etc., are being unearthed
and this week the woe men came upon
an old wooden pike poi that most have
been used in working the upper dam
as long as forty years go.

Death of a Pioneer Resident
An old, and wt 11 known and highly
respected residen , one who had lived in
this vicinity for pwards of half a cen-
tury, and had > more thnn ordinary
share in the hard hips of life of the ear-
ly pioneer, passe away about 10 o'clock
on Tuesday nigh ha the person of Mrs.
Robert Currie, :. , at her home on Pat-
riok street, Th deceased lady had for
some time been in frail health, but for
the past few we • .-s had been much bett-
er than usual, >•nd ou the Tuesday was
out driving witl her husband and visit-
ed with her sis er in East Wawanosh.
Two hours befor: her death she was vis-
iting at the hom of a neighbor, retnrn-
ing home she w = sitting in a chair and
soddenly fell fo ward, and was dead in
a few minutes. The immediate cause of
death was he>, t failure. Deceased,
whose maiden • > me was Ann Linklater,
was born on the 3rd of May, 1834, in the
parish of Birsa , Orkney, Scotland, and
in the spring •f 1855, came to Canada
with her parent: ,brothers, and sisters,and
settled in Wa > nosh. In July, 1856, she
married Mr. C rrle, and lived on lot 40,
concession 14, : est Wawanosh, up to two
years ago whe • they moved to Wingham
Mrs, Carrie w s a woman of many excel-
lent qualities > nd had a very large circle
of friends, ho will deeply regret her
very sudden ath. She was kind hearted,
a good moth- and faithful wife and will
be very mac • missed by her partner of
nearly fifty years, and had she lived
until next J ly the golden wedding of
this respect couple wOnld have been
celebrated, She will always be re-
membered y the older scholars, who
attended th Lower Wingham school in
that she h given very freely to the
boys and gi is of the earlier days. De-
ceased was or many years a member tit
the Wingh m Congregational Church,
and since t e closing of that charch had
been a fait ful member of the Baptist
ohurob, esides her aged partner she
