Mean. Nearly all the giddy youob off , the neighborhood attended the; oh, fity bazar, and one by one they drifted to a stall where a tiny, shapely, scented grey kid glove reposed ou a satin cushion. Attached to the cushion was a notice written in a delicate feminine hand, which ran: "The owner of this glove will, at 7 30 this evening, be pleased to kiss any per- son who purchases a sixpenny ticket be- forehand," Tickets were purchased by the snore, and at 7.30 a long row of sheepish, not to say doggish, youngs bloods was as- sembled outside the stall. Then, punctual to the moment, old Tom Porson, the local pork -butcher, who weight twenty stone, and Is almost as beautiful as a side of bacon, stepped to the front of the stall. "Now, youug gents," he said, in his best "Buy, buy!" tones, "this 'ere glove belongs to me, 1 bought it this morn- ing. Now I'm ready for you. Come on! Don't be bashful! One ata time!" But nobody came on, The farmers of Michigan are greatly exercised by a worm which they have never seen before, and which does im- mense damage to crops. The worm is called the "hay bug," as no one knows what else to call it. It is said not to be the "cut worm." Millions of these bugs crawl over the stalks of hay and cut off the tops, which fall to the ground as though mowed with a machine. The bug then passes on, leaving waste m its path. A Warning to Mothers. Too much care cannot be used with small children during the hot weather of the summer months to guard against bowel troubles. As a rule it is only ne- cessary to give the child a dose of caster oil to correct any disorder of the bowels. Do not use any substitute, but give the old-fashioned castor oil, and see that it is fresh as rancid oil nauseates and has a tendency to gripe. If this does not check the bowels give Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy and then a dose of castor oil, and the disease may be checked in its incipiency and all danger avoided. The caster oil and this remedy should be procured at once and kept ready for instant use as soon as the first indication of any bowel trouble appears. This is the most successful treatment known and may be relied upon with implicit confidence even in cases of cholera infantum. For sale by A. 1. Borrowing the Paper. The Kansas City Journal tells of a penny -wise -pound foolish man who, too economical to subscribe for his home paper, sent his little boy to borrow the copy taken by a neighbor. In his haste the boy ran over a four dollar stand of bees and in ren minutes looked like a warty summer squash. His cries were heard by his father who ran to his assist- ance, and, failing to notice a barbed wire fence, ran into it, breaking it down, cutting a handful of flesh from his anatomy and ruining,a $5 pair of panta- loons. But no good purpose can be sub - served by concealing it, the rest may as well be told. The old cow took advant- age of the gap in the fence and got into the cornfield and killed herself eating green corn. Hearing the racket the wife ran, upset a four gallon churn of rich cream into a box of kittens, drown- ing the whole Sock. In her harry she dropped a $30 set of false teeth. The baby, left alone, crawled through the spilled oream and into the parlor, ruin- ing a $20 carpet. During the excite- ment the oldest daughter ran away with the hired man, the dog broke up eleven setting hens, and the calves got out and chewed the tails off four fine shirts. Elias Walford, caretaker of the Walkerton public school, was engaged the other day in oiling some of the desks. He was polishing them off with a rag, and when the bell sounded the noon hour, he threw it down on the floor and went home to dinner. On his re- turn at one o'clock the rag was on fire. This fire was clearly the result of spon- taneous combustion for there was no fire id the room nor had any person visited it during his absence. Is it not possible that a good many fires of mysterious origin are started by heaps of rags that have become more or less saturated with grease and thrown to one side? -Walker- ton Telescope.
