Dr. Bruce Smith, Iuspector of Prisons and Chari- ties, who has just returned from a trip of inspection to Perth, L'Original, Smith's Falls, and Brockville, reports that there are practically no insane in the prisons of Eastern Ontario. In the To- ronto jail at this time last year there were 36 insane inmates; to -day there are only 3, and these may be regarded as fit subjects for a House of Refuge. Mr. M:al theson, Provincial Treasurer, has de- cided to be lenient with the Lemon Bros. circus, which recently appeared in this town, and whose license to exhibit at twelve different localities in Ontario was revoked on account of recent dis- turbances in Quebec. After conversa- tion 'with Mr. Charles E. McKee, mans - gar of the circus, he concluded that the reports from Quebec were considerably exaggerated, and as no complaints were received from places in Ontario where the chow exhibited that harsh treatment was unnecessary. He will therefore is- sue the license, allowing the circus to go on its way undisturbed. The Government, it is understood, will not take any action in the case of the refusal of the West Kent license com• miesionere to renew the license of the Rankin house at Chatham. The Gov. Deafness Cannot De Cured By local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condi- tion of the mucous lining of the Eusta- cirlan Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rnmbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the in- flammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condi- tion of the mucous surfaces, We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure.
