Lemon Bros. circus was rather a tame
outfit when it was at Wingham, but is
seems to have let itself loose when it
reached the province of Quebec, At a
little village called Grand Mere, they
seized a French girl tied so abused her
that they demanded their arrest. This
led to a fight in which the circus men
won, and it finally became necessary to
send to Quebec for a company of soldiers.
The soldiers arrested the whole outfit.

A recent regulation issued by the
postal department is worth bearing in
mind by those having boxes. As all the
postmasters are liable to make mistakes
in putting mail matter into wrong boxes,
this new regulation requires people to
examine their snail before leaving the
Office, and should they find a piece not
addressed to they must return it at once,
or be liable to a fine of $200. That it is
the fault of the postmaster makes no
difference.

A company is being organized in St.
Thomas to manufacture voting machines
from models invented by Chas. H. Jack-
son, of Bridgeburg, Ont. The Dominion
Government has just granted a patent
on the machines. They are worked by
a series of levers, which operate marbles
and thus cast the vote. Experts, who
have tested the machine, say it is abso-
lutely impossible to do anything crooked
with it, either by the deputy returning
officer or the voter. No votes can be
spoiled and the total vute at the end of
the day's voting can be seen at once,
though secret until the poll, closes. The
company will first commence to make
machines for municipal elections, for
which they have several orders already,
but should the Dominion Government
adopt voting machines (and- the pro-
moters have been assured by politicians
at Ottawa that they will do so very
shortly) there will be good chances of
the Jackson machine being selected.

The White King.
Solomon was called by the Jews of
his time the "white king" from the col-
or of the robes he wore. The allusion
made in the New Testament to the lily
of the field, a white flower, in connec-
tion with Solomon is thus made clearer.
Feast of Reconciliation.
The feast of Iteconciliation was a

The Battle of Belahoe.
The battle of Belahoe is famous in
Irish history as a spoiling of the spoil-
ers. Two chieftains, O'Neill and O'Dou-
neli, had made a thieving excursion
into a neighboring territory and were
returning with their plunder when they
met an English force and after a brief
and feeble resistance ran away, leav-
ing their booty in the hands of the
English.

If the camphor bottle becomes roily
