A meeting of the Executive of the
West Bruce Teachers' Association was
held in Paisley, at which it was decided
to hold the next annual convention in
Kincardine on Sept. 14th and 15th.

So far indications show that the crop
in the West will far surpass that of any
former years. Frosts have occurred in
Dakota, but so far the wheat crop of

Between fifty and sixty soldiers wh°
deserted from the Russian army, passed
through London last week accompanied
by their wives and families, on their way
to the Western Status. Tiny bad been
notified to join their respective corps
immeoiately after the fall of Port Ar-
thur, but believing, with Gen. Shifter,
that war is hades, they resolved to trans -
for their allegiance to the United States.
None of them could speak English.

U. S. soldiers who served in Cuba dur-

a divorce. This is simply another in-
stance of the mail order bargain not be-

Dr. Chas. A. Hodgetts, of the Provin-
cial Health Department, has issued in-
structions for circulars to be sent to
divisional registers informing them that
when births are registered the name of
the child mast also be registered, For
years, Dr. Hodgetts says, that the matter
of registration has been attended to in
a very slovenly and slipshod manner.
He states that doctors, in the majority
of cases, report the birth of a male of
or female child to Mrs, SO -and -So, but
the registration was of no nee as a re-
cord, because it lacked the name. The
Berlin Telegraph sapiently remarks that
the demands on the registration branch
for searches in Cade of wills and on
account of amateur baseball, football,
and hockey players ie growing steadily,
and frequently' the records are Mom -
pieta. In future the name of all infants
must be registered.

A very pretty wedding took place at
the home of Mr. Heury Lawlor Wednes-
day evening, 15th inst., when his daugh-
ter, Carrie, was nnited to Mr. W. Henry
of Gerrie. Rev. T. B. Coapland per-
formed the ceremony in the presence of
about 40 guests, immediate friends of
the contracting parties. The bride look
ed charming iu a teauiful crepe de chene
dress, carrying a baguet of bridal roses.
The ceremony was performed in the
parlor under a floral arch. Miss Etta
McDowell, of Goderich, niece of the
groom, played the wedding march.
Immediately after the ceremony the
bridal party proceeded to the lawn where
a sumptuous wedding repast was par-
taken of. The preseuts were numerous
and useful.
A peculiar case of revenge was venti-
lated before the Police Magistrate at
Bowmanville recently, when Mary Jane
Scotter, of the township of Manvers,
was charged with eating money, or de-
stroying it by chewing it like gum. She
was employed by Stinson Robinson, a
wealth) bachelor, residing on lot 11,
con, 8, of Clarke township, near the vil-
lage of Kendal, as housekeeper and farm
servant. She and her employer had a
quarrel, and she was ordered to leave.
Before leaving she went to the bureau
drawer, where the money ie kept, and
took $50 in five dollar bills. Twenty-
five dollars were chewed to wads, entire-
ly destroying the money, not a vestige
remaining for identification. The other
$25 was hidden under a rail fence, as
she turned sick at the stomach and could
not complete masticating the dirty bank
notes.

town ordered the name changed to
