(.% F: Whitley of the, Dairy OemmisSiOner'S Branch, Ott- awa, gave a very interesting aceount of it cow census which he conducted in the vicinity of Cowansville, Que.: Clueing the sununer of 1004- Under his supervision seventy-two farmers keptdaily- milk records of their pews and three times a •month toe* sam- ples• for testing from the •ndik of each individual tow -in -their dairies. In ibis way reasonable 'accurate fig- uree Were obtained. For. the Month of June the -general average of All lite herds/ tested Was on lbs. of milk, yielding 25 lbe, of fat. In one case twenty-two cows had e yield for the month of 17,845 lbe. of milk and 722.5 lbs. of fat, an av- erage per cow of 811 lbsof milk aed e2.4 lbs, of fat. In another herd of eleven cows, every •animal was below I the general average, the range being as low as 280 • lbs. to 805 lbsof mile per cow, and this herd consisted • 0; Jersey; -Guernsey, Ayrshire -and Ho: - Stein' grades and 'natives.
