Duaall.-Our villagers were sorry to
learn on Saturday of the death of John
Cummins, after a short illness, at the
home of his sister, Mrs. Duncan Mc-
Gregor, of Tuokersmith. He had been
in poor health for some tittle, and re-
cently had an attack of geippe. . He
was _working at the home ot Wm. Bell,
when he took ill, and was taken to the
home of his sister. The funeral was
beldon Monday, Rev. E. H. Sewers
offiCiating, deceased being,a member
of his congregation. A larae number
of friends and reletives followed the
remains to Egmondville cemetery.

and Rev. E. H. Sewers exchanged pul-
pits on Sabbath last. D. Akair and
wife left on Monday for Goldstone,
where he will be station master; while
living in our village they made many
friends who much regret their depart-
ure ; the station 'master of Goldstone
will have charge of Brumfield station. •
Mrs. Sewers left last week to visit her
mother. Mrs. Hamilton, in Iowa, who
is ill ; she is eighty-four years of age,
so that her 'recovery is scarcely looked
for ; her father, Mr. Hamilton, is also
living, and is eighty-eight years of age.
Mr. Lockhart, Detroit, is ill of appen-
dicitis at the home of his uncle, John
Murdock ; he came to attend the fune-
ral of his aunt, Mrs. J. Aikenhead, and
was unable to return home. The fune-
ral of ars. Douglas, sister-in-law • of
Allen Douglas, of our village, was held
at his home on Wednesday last. Her
husband, son, and son-in-law, of Min-
.neapolis,• attended the funeral, inter -
went taking place at Varna. Dr. D.
McIntosh, who has been ill, is now
able to be about again. A. McQueen,
N. Ross, M. Aikenhead and. Miss Cam-
eron have returned to their respective
schools, . .

were_ present. The Quarterly Board
met Monday at 2.30 p. m A fair rea,

delegate to District meeting. It is
generally hoped. on the circuit thatthe
Rev. E. A. Snow, the pastor, will be re-
turned here at conference for another

his son-in-law, Mr. AndreW Currie, in
West Wawanosh. Some time ago he
was troubled with a sorer iess in one Of
his toes and the toe wira amptitated.

Wawanosh. Deceased had been ill for
three "weeks, with kidney • trouble and

and esteem of all who knew her. her. It
is a strange coincidence, that Mrs.
King, and the late Mrs. Hanna, who
resided on adjoining farms so many
years, have both been laid to rest with-

sons and four. daughters. Deceased
was in •her 65th year, and was a mem-
ber Of Calvin Presbyterian Church;
There passed away on Sunday lea at
the home of her daughter, Mrs Alex
Young, one -of the pioneers of this dis-
trict, Elizabeth Ruddy, relict of the
late Campbell Hanna. Deceased was
born in the county of Armagh, Ireland
nearly seventy-five years ago, and
came with herparents to Canada,
When quite young. Soon after her
marriage, or aboutthe year 1854, she:
came withher lite husband to the
township of 'East Wawanosh, then
just opening for settlement. The grav-
el road through Winghara to • Clinton
was then not built, and Emit Wawan-
osh was reached from Goderich. Her
husband cleared the farm onWhich the .
Brick church in Haat Wawanosh now
stands, and as a consistent member Of
the Methodist -Church, the deceased
will he remembered by -the early set-
tlers remaining. Of her family Of six
daughters anct one son. only one
daughter remains, Mrs. Alex Young,.

held at the home of Mrs, D. Tudor.
Wm. Lindsay has been running the
new township grader near here, and,
as usual, he has made a good job of the

up with appendicitis, and it may be
some time before he is able to go back.

act of 104 the work is much more diffi-
cult than formerly, yet Mr. .Carter has
presented a very good roll, and with
the exception of section 11, respecting
income tax. which is not very general -
13r complied with, otherwise it is appar-
ently very .correct and in accordance
with the statute. Section No.10 Of the
new act, respecting business assess-
ment. is not regarded favorably, more
especially by men in a stnall way of
business; to such it seems, and is, very
unjust as compared with others. An-
other requirement of the new act is
the valuation of real propertyexempt
from taxation exceptfor local imProve-
ment, such as churches, school houses.

Bethel last Sabbath, conducted by the
pastor. The attendance was good, the
different congregations being well re-

ing has been thoroughly repaired and
overhauled; new ' cement floors have
been put itt throughout, and a fine new

worker has been installed. The cream-
ery has Steadily grown in popularity
and favor in recent years, each year
surpassing the last. It is usder the
same careful and Skilful management
