,\ proposal tor the future expansion of the
Tuckersmith Telephone System was explain-
ed to Tuckersmith Township council at a
meeting Tuesday evening by two officers of
the system who attended the council session.
Chairman I)on Campbell and secretary -
treasurer Mel Graham informed council they
were investigating the possibility of convert-
ing the Hayfield station in order to perform all
their own switching from the Hensall.Clin-
ton Seaforth area.
The equipment they are proposing to
install will also allow for greater expansion of
services and provide for additional capacity
for'the future. •
They advised the estimated cost of the
project will he approximately $1.1 million,
but that the savings on the switching fees
presently paid to Bell Canada will provide a
pty hack over five or six years.

Council amended the resolution concern-
ing private tile drainage crossing municipal
roads 10 read as follows: that any priviate
drains crossing a township municipal road,
the municipality will supply all the material
used under the road but that the work must be
carried out under the supervision of the road
superintendent.
Council will forward a letter to the ministry
of municipal affairs, subsidy branch, advis-
ing of Tuckersmith's concern over the
lateness of the Farm Tax Rebate applications
being mailed to ratepayers within the
township.
Council will support a severance applica-
tion from Paul Kruse. Harpurhey. to
establish two building lots, instead of three
lots, under the registered plan.

CARNIVAL ANTICS — There was plenty for
everyone to do Friday when the Seaforth
District High School hosted Its second
annual Carnival. In addition to Black Jack
tables, as seen above, there was a penny
sale, fortune telling and craft and bake sales.
In the photograph to the right, teacher Terri
Brintnell can be seen arranging some of the
wares at the craft booth, while the school's
vice principal Jim Moore, left, good
naturedly lets himself be the target In a
water toss. The carnival ran all afternoon
with students from the nearby elementary
schools Joining In on the activities. In the
evening a celebrity auction In which sport;
team, rock and television star memorabilia
was sold to the highest bidder.

New grant formula announced for continuing ed
The Ministry of Education has developed a
new grant formula for school boards offering
continuing education programs. Education
Minister Sean Conway has announced.
For 1987 the fixed dollar amount for
grant -eligible continuing education pro-
grams will be $1.900 for each full-time
. equivalent pupil enrolled in the program.
('ont inuing education courses eligible for this
assistance include adult credit courses, adult
basic education, including English or French
as, a second language, citizenship and
language instruction. adult basic literacy and
numeracy and correspondence courses.
Mr Conway said the new formula "is
designed to cover the full cost of providing
continuing education programs and will not
require any taxes from the local ratepayers."
because the programs will be fully funded by
the province it will allow public boards to
offer continuing adult education programs to
separate school supporters.
School hoards which might otherwise lose
landing under this new formula are guaran-
teed their current grant -- based on the
previous formula •• for the period from
January 1. 1987 to August 31. 1987, Mr.

disadvantage because of the change, and in
tact. many school hoards will actually benefit
t'cirn the nevi funding formula."

township roads during the winter
months in order to facilitate
snowplowing operations.
Council will not be responsible
for damage to any vehicle park-
ed �n roads or streets. Council

do not push or dump snow onto
