M ary requested all members bring one or two
,Christmas cards to the January meeting. Nell
Riley gave the treasurer's report.
The offering was received by Hilda Payne
and dedicated by Nan Britton. Unit Four
ladies were asked to go to the arena
December 12 to peel potatoes.
Nan Btitton had the study. Nan told of
many ways that Christmas is celebrated
around the world. Christmas cake and
cookies were served by Eileen Ronnie and
Evelyn Flynn,

The annual general meeting of the Hensall
United Church W omen was held December 1.
President Belva Fuss opened the meeting
with a Christmas wish.
The Huron -Perth Presbyterial will be held
in Mitchell on January 26 at 9 a,m. The
Presbyterial executive will meet at Hensall
United Church on February ,9. The 25th
anniversary of the U.C.W. will be held in
W aterloo from June 18 to 21, lois W ilson will
be one of the speakers.
Committee reports were given and the
treasurer. Hilda Payne reported on donations
to Missions, church projects and committee
work.
The 1987 budget was presented by Diane
Gerstenkorn and was accepted. Shirley
,McAllister brought in the following nomina-
tions for 1987: Past President Joyce Pepper,
President, Belva Fuss, 1st Vice, Grace
Drummond, Secretary, Joyce Pepper, Trea-
surer, Hilda Payne, Stewardship and Fi-
nance, Diane Gerstenkorn, Communications,
Eleanor Mansfield, Leadership and Christian
Development, Shirley McAllister, World
Outreach, Kay Mock, Church in Society,
Audrey Christie, In -Church Committee,
Marg. Cole, Manse representatives, Belva
Fuss and Mary Brintnell, nursery, Shirley
McAllister, nominations, Joyce Pepper, card
convener, Mary Kinsmen. Unit leaders,
Helen McLean (assistant), Grace Drum-
mond, Marg Upshall, Nan Britton, Elva
Forrest.

The regular meeting of the Amber
Rebekah Lodge was held on December 3
beginning with a turkey supper at 6:30 p.m.
Noble Grand Sister Bonnie Upshall wel-
cofned all to the meeting and Vice Grand
Sister Ruby reported having sent get well
cards to Sister Alice and Sister Edith. Sister
Beatrice and Sister Lois reported visiting with
Sister Vera at Huronview.
Plans were made to help the Oddlellows
with the lunch at the New Year's Eve dance at
the Arena,
Happy Birthday was sung to Sister Muriel
Richardson.
Following the meeting all assembled in the
tower hall for a social hour with an exchange
of gifts when the secret sisters were revealed.
The social committee served lovely desserts
and punch.
UNIT III
The Christmas meeting of Unit HI United
Church Women was held in the Fellowship
Hall with Marg Upshall presiding. The
meeting was opened with the theme song
followed by prayer. Marg Britnell conducted
the worship with poems. A thank you card
was read from Randy and Carolyn Parker.
United Church Women members were asked
to put their Knechtel cash register tapes in to
the box in the store to help support Hensall
Scouts and Venturers.
Dorothy Parker read a poem. A report of
the bazaar was given as well as a brief outline
of future proposals for the U.C.W. Mr.
Cowan gave the Christmas message.

turnout on Thursday afternoon at the Hensall

TREE LIGHTING
A very large crowd attended the Hensall
Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday evening at•
the Town Hall. After a t'ew brief words by
councillor Peter Groot and Mr. Cowan of
Hensall United Church the tree was illumi-
nated.
The Hensall Public School Junior choir
gave a charming rendition of "Silent Night"
and were joined by the crowd in a rousing
chorus of 'Here Comes Santa Claus'
probably attracted by the singing, Santa
appeared right at that moment with smiles
and candy canes for all of the children.
It was wonderful to see so many villagers of
all ages turn out to watch what is hoped will
become a yearly tradition. Thanks should go
out to Inge Mowat and the Economic
Development Committee for their work.

Ilensall United Church held its annual
White Gift Sunday this week, U was a lovely
service and the gifts should help to make a
better Christmas for .those who are less
fortunate,
COOKING SCHOOL
There was another successful microwave
cooking school held Friday night at Drys -
dale's in Hensall. A large crowd was on hand
to learn how to prepare those holiday meals
and goodies.

Saskatchewan were home in Hensall last
week visiting with families and to attend the
50th anniversary celebration for Scott's
grandparents. a
Congratulations to Brad and Sandra
Marsden on the birth of their first child.
Sunday dinner guests with Alphonse and
Betty Grenier of Hensall were Alida and
Andrew Rau and grandson Darrin Rau of
Zurich and George and Eileen Dowson of
Hensall. The group was celebrating Alida's
birthday and the Grenier's 39th wedding
anniversary.
Evening visitors with Betty and Alphonse
were Joe and Joanne Bengough, Hensall,
Larry and Carole Luther with Robert and
'fere Lynn of Grand Bend,

Wednesday. December 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the
Hensall United Church. Roll call is what you

The second Sunday of Advent was
celebrated at St. Andrews on Deeember 7,
Rev. Lorne Keays sermon was entitled

Queensway Nursing Home residents are
really getting excited about Christmas,
especially because the first seasonal party is
coming up on Thursday. If you're not in the
Christmas spirit yet. come on over for the
Spruce Party on December 11 Residents
guarantee you'll get in the Christmas spirit.
The Tuesday church service this week was
given by Reverend Arles He presented
residents with a beautiful service that
included singing favorite Christmas carols.
Wednesday morning it was exercise time
once again which always helps to "perk -up"
a day.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. the
Auxiliary met for the second time. Congratu-
lations go to the first "official" auxiliary
president for the term 1986-87, Lillian Baker.

The M inistry of Music was provided by the
choir singing "There was no Room in
Bethlehem," accompanied by Mary Moffatt
at the organ.

family on the death of Ken's father Joe
McLellan. Mr. McLellan farmed In the
Kippen area for many years.

Thursday morning it was once again time
for exercise. Then in the evening residents
enjoyed the "Movie of the Week" and "Path
of the Paddle" which opened eyes to
beautiful scenery. canoeing and the thrill and
excitement of "shooting the rapids."
Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.. Father Mooney
came in to hold mass for Roman Catholic
residents.
Finally. Queensway would like to share
