LADIES BROOM BALL
QUEENS 3 COMMERCIAL3
Surprise! The Commercial startled the
broomball world last Wednesday eve by
holding the mighty Queens squad to an
astonishing 3-3 standoff.
Actually, it was a tale of four teams in this
curious match. It was the story of the
Commercial outfit that showed up in the first
period and the one that appeared for the final
stanza. it was also the saga of the Queens
ladies who made like Jekyl and Hyde this
night out.
The Commercial club dominated the First
period and if not for Heather Mclwraith and
Bev Shea whiffing en clear cut breakaways
they could have .been ahead by a couple
instead of tied.
They must have drank something at
intermission because the Queens came
roaring out like Jekyl's sinister alter ego. The
royal ladies caught the Commercial flat
footed and, most of the play took place in the
latter's end zone.
The Queens were leading when they got
trapped in a bad line change and Mclwraith
found herself all alone at center with nothing
between her and the net but acres of open ice.
She trotted in on the Queen's net and after
drawing the goalie out, shovelled a nice pass
to Janice Cairns who calmly plunked the
orange orb into the gaping net.
Mcfwraith also had a goal and in addition
to Cairns tally, the Commercial got a solo
effort from Cheryl Campbell. •
Broomball, like soccer, can be a game of
few chances and even fewer goals, Norah
Eckert made the most of her opportunities in
this game and scored a rare hat trick for the
Queens. The ball was hungry lost puppy and with any like her
any luck,
have had a couple more.
WINTIIROP2JUNIOR FARM ERS 0 t
Maybe somebody should give Dianne
Bennett some isolation pay this week. The
W inthrop netminder looked positvely lone-
some last week in her game against the
Junior Farmers. She could have gone for
french fries or written an autobiography
A Neglected Furnace
Can Be Dangerous.
The best way to ensure that your furnace is safe is to have it checked periodically by a
registered heating contractor. A quick check can reveal small problems, before they become
large problems.
A blocked chimney or faulty furnace can cause serious health problems and even death by
allowing carbon monoxide gas to spill into your home. Also, if there isn't sufficient
household air for proper furnace combustion, exhaust gases may be prevented from rising
up the chimney, and leak back into your home.
This can occur when the fireplace, kitchen fan
or other air exhausting appliances are
operated in a home.
t,
without fear of interruption.
Bennett, you see, didn't have a single shot
on net. Sitting on a sand dune in the Sahara
she would have witnessed more human
activity than she did during this affair.
Anyway. Winthrop got tallies from Jackie
Bell and Marg Flanagan to win. They should
have succeeded by a whole lot more.
PARRLINE7 PERTH 0
In the metaphorical world of broomball and
wealth, Parrline is capitalist and affluent
while Perth are the proletariat bereft of
funds.
Parrline is oozing with a richness of talent
and after a slow start strolled to a leisurely 7-0
win over Perth last Wednesday night. No
ethereal socialist equality fancies here,
Parrline is simply the best squad in the
business right now.
