200 attend veteran's banquet Saturday
The Veterans Banquet held this past
Saturday, was attended by close to 200
Legion members and wives.
Guests attending from various levels of the
Legion were guest speaker Reg. Cleator, past
secretary to Ontario Command, W alter
Dukes District C. Commander and his wife
June from Mount Forest, Glenn Bridge,
Deputy District Commander and his wife
Jean from Brussels and Zone Commander
Jack Tufford and his wife Rita from
Kincardine, Evelyn Carroll, second Vice
President of the Ontarion ladies Auxiliary
Command and her husband Howard from
Goderich and Mary Hahn, Ladies Auxiliary
Zone Commander and her husband Harley
from Kincardine.
Also attending was the Hon. Jack Riddell
. with his wife greetings from the On a. Mr. ario Legislature Riddelluand
presented the Seaforth President, on behalf
of the branch, with a portrait of Queen
Elizabeth 11 Hazel Hildebrand and husband
George brought ,aught greetings from the Town of
Seaforth.
Comrade Reg Cleator was introduced by
AL Nicholson and spoke on the Legion and
where it could be heading in the years to
come. Earl Laycox, second Vice President of
the Branch thanked Reg on behalf of those
present. The Ladies Auxiliary President
brought greetings from the Auxiliary and
presented a cheque for $5,000 to president
Jim Watson. The money in that cheque
represents many hours of work donated each
week by members of the •Auxiliary free of
charge. Members of the Branch can only say
"thank you" for your continual support and
hard work through the years.

Comrade Bill W ilbee was presented with a
Life Membership Award by District Com-
mander W alter Dukes. The citation was read
by Comrade Dick Whiteley who is the Past
Honours and Awards chairman. Comrade Bill
thanked the Branch for the honor bestowed
upon him.
This year's Church parade, held on Sunday
was well attended by the members and
Auxiliary led by the Seaforth District High
School Girls Band• paraded to St. James
Church for the Remembrance Day Service
held by Father Caruana. After the service a
lunch was served by the Auxiliary and the
Poppy Drive was held in the afternoon. On
behalf of President Jim thanks to all those
who helped and to all who gave so
generously. it is appreciated.
The Branch Euchres are starting on
W ednesdav (tonight I according to Larry
Broome who has volunteered again this year
to run them. They will be held every other
week until spring.
Darts itiill start this year on Saturday at 7
p m Anyone who has not signed the list
provided feel free to attend on Saturday,
Darts this year is under the leadership of Ann
Laycox and Mel Melanson,

Seaforth Lawn Bowlers brought this year's
season to a successful close when lawn
bowlers and associate members held their
annual fall banquet.
Following a deli -ions meal catered to by
Egmondviile Church ladies. Neil Bell ex-
pressed courtesy remarks to the ladies in

were made by Edna Bell and to the men s
club by Edith Dunlop
Fourteen tables of euchre and three of
bridge were then in play High scores for
bridge were held by Esther Brady with 3480
and Jim Kelly 3370 For euchre high scores
were held by fiika Van Bake! and Harold
Coleman with consolation going to Thelma
Pryce and Peter Connolly Most lone hands
were Verde Sinclair and Jack Muir
The first euchre and budge of the fall
season will be held on November 25 at 8 p.m.
at the Orange Hall and all members and
associates welcome. W e are sorry to report
several members are on the sick list Lorne
Dale is =fined to Seaforth Community
Hospital while Helen Connell is recovering
from surgery in Stratford General Hospital
Also Oliver Pryce is not up to his usual self A
speedy recovery to all.

June Cooper was guest speaker at the
November meeting of the Egmondville
United Church Women. She delighted
everyone with Christmas ornaments. decora-

The meeting was held November 3 with
President Doris Carnodhan presiding. A
poem " Remembrance" was read by Doris
followed by prayer.
Devotions were led by Lois Moore with
"Remembrance Day" as the theme. "In
Flanders Field" was read. Lois read a story
titled "Journey of Remembrance."
Wanda Diet led in prayer. were read

versary Service at 11 a.m. December 1.

Happy Citizens at meetg
The Seaforth Happy Citizens No. 865 met
in the legion Hall November 6 with 59
present.
President Grace Broadfoot opened the
meeting. She then read a poem Remem-
brance Day. -
Twenty members attended a rally held in
Dungannon on October 16. Grace gave a
report it. Their guest speaker was Shirley
Keller. Among other things she said seniors
have a lot of wisdom and not to give up. There
are lots of things we can do to help others less
fottunate than we are.
The Christmas dinner is on December 4 at
12 o'clock noon.
The bus is full for the Geritol Follies in
Hamiltbrf on December 11.

WHEREAS, the vast majority of the youth are concerned.

WHEREAS, the accomplishments and achievements of these
young citizens deserve recognition and praise of their elders, and
WHEREAS, Optimist International has since 1954 developed
and promoted a program entitled Youth Appreciation Week, and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Seaforth, Ont. have indicated a
desire to join with the Optimists in expressing appreciation and
approval of the contributions of the youth, I, Alf Ross, Mayor
therefore proclaim the second week of November as Youth
Appreciation Week in Seaforth, Ont. By this action, let it be known
that we have faith in the ability of today's youth as they assume
responsible roles in the future of mankind.
