November 10-14 national 4-H Week
Federal Minister of Agriculture John W ise
has proclaimed November 10 through 16 as
National 441 Week 1986. bringing to public
attention the extensive and exceptional work
of the 4.1 organization across Canada today,
• and Canada's major grocery chains will be
joining the salute.
From its early days as a purely agriculture -
centred youth club, Canadian 4-H has
evolved into a sophisticated program promot-
ing responsible citizenship, leadership, so-
cial awareness and independence, while still
maintaining the basic concept of "learning to
do by doing." At the community level,
thousands of leaders share time and
expertise in supervising local 4-14 groups in
skill -developing projects and activities. At
the national level. largely thanks to corporate
spopsors, 4-11 achievers continue to learn And
gmw, travelling to workshops, conferences,
camps and on youth ex''langes In Canada and
°bored and vying for . aluable scholarships
National 4 H W eek highlights the unique
opportunity 4•11 represents today for young
people growing up in our rural communities
to develop their potential. These young
people will someday thread their way through
the entire fabric of our society in rural, urban
and suburban settings. Thanks to 4 1I, to
these young Canadians, learning and doing
will have become second nature.

GOOD NEWS
A PENSION PLAN
is changing for the better.
On /anuary 1, 1987, your Canada
Pension Plan will change. These
changes put your Plan on a solid,
long-term financial foundation.
If's important to know what
benefits are available because your
Plan provides you and/orour fam-
ily with a basic level of earnings
protection when you rletiae, become
disabled, or die. You will, hoivever,
have to apply for the benefits when
you believe you are eligible.
The information that follows
highlights the major improvements.

a better tomorrow
New financing arrangements will make and
keep your Plan more secure than ever.
Right now you and your employer each
contribute 1.8% ofur earnings up to a
maximum amount. Each year until 1991, the
contribution rate will rise by 0.2% and from
there until 2011 by 0.15%. if you make the
maximum contribution. you will pay about
S26 more in 1981.
A wider choice
of rethement options
After January 1st, you cantbegin receiving
your CPP pension as early as age 60. You
could qualify even if you are not fully
retired.
if you begin your pension before age 65;
your benefits will be less because you will
have contributed less and will get the bene-
fits for a longer period of time.
Or, if you choose not to start your pen-
sion until after age 65 (up to age 71)), your
monthly benefits will tie reel*.
LYour pension would normally be pay -
able the month after your 65th birthday. For
each month between that date and when
your pension begins, your benefit will be
adjusted by 0.5%. This adjustment will
apply for as lenges you receive the benefit.
