RECREATION PREVIEW

Aerobics program will stretch local bodies
"BodyStretch", a new bounceless aerobics
fitness program produced by ''BodyFit
Canada" will be taught in Seaforth this fall
beginning next week.
The new program will provide complete
physical conditioning without the stress of
high impact aerobics such as jogging. The
participant still receives a heart training
aerobic workout and this is accomplished
through the choreography of the routines.
"BodyStretch" will appeal to those people
who simply cannot or do not like to jog, those
who are prone to shin splints or ankle or knee
injuries or anyone beginning to get in shape
and Wanting a slightly lower level work-out
than Trim -A -Size.
Cheryl Phillips, who teaches both Trim -A -
Size and BodyStretch, welcomes anyone'
interested to try out both programs tonight at
the arena free of charge with regular classes
beginning next week. The warm-ups, floor
work and cool -downs of both programs are
basically the same intensity. The difference
lies in the 20 to 25 minute cardiovascular
portion of the class.
During Trim -A -Size four to five high-level
routines are done involving jogging, skipping
or high and low kicks while in BodyStretch,
one foot is in contact with the floor at all times
with more upper body and arm movements
to get the heart rate up.
Both programs are professionally choreo-
graphed to be safe and beneficial. Anyone
wishing any further information can call
Cheryl at 527-0765.

Water hazards now plentiful
There are now water hazards on top of
water hazards, and rivers where none have
gone before. It is literally impossible to play
golf at the local course these days but the
kingfishers, blue herons, and snapping
turtles are enjoying the country club
atmosphere. Wet rainy weather is typical
weather in the country where golf originated,
and golfers have been noted for playing their
game no matter what. However when
pontoons and water wings are the order of the
day and casual water is more common than
fairway, it's time to take a break and enjoy
golf from another angle.
As the nights get longer and the days
aren't too bright either, there is more time to
read and watch television. Golf is one sport
where reading material abounds and audio-
visual material is readily available. Enjoying
your favorite sport from the comforts of the
living room couch while the rain pours down
outside is not so bad after all.
Golf publications are an interesting and
light way to cover all aspects of the game and
get insider's looks at the sport. American
magazines such as Golf and Golf Digest are
the best known golf publications and offer
instruction. interviews, history, statistics and
much more from equipment previews to golf
course architecture. Our own Canadian golf
magazine Score and Ontario's Ontario Golf
News give golfers insight into the country's
and province's golfers. events, and upcoming
attractions as well as rules, quizzes and
humorous articles. Even the advertising is

interesting as it gives golfers a chance to see
what is new and where it is available.
There are thousands of golf books that have
been written over the years and each season
more are published. Whether it's lightheart-
ed comedy (and golf certainly has its
humorous side), or a deep look into the
psychological side of the game, there are golf
books for all ages and levels of golfers. Malay
golf books are available through the local
library system. at area schools, bookshops
and proshops. Most pros will be happy to
order in the books of your choice.
Golfers are avid fans of their sport and will
diligently watch televised tourneys on
weekends. This is a great way to keep in touch
with the sport over the winter months. A
major change in the viewing of golf is the
trend to the video cassettes. Many profes-
sionals have instructional tapes on the market
and there are cassettes covering everything
from courtesy on the course to the rules of the
game. For nostalgia fans. many of the old golf
events have been recorded on cassettes and
can be rented or purchased outright. One of
the most recent hits on the encsette market is
George Knudson's golf tape on instruction.
and a recently released film of Jack Nicklaus'
win at the 1986 Masters, an emotional and
exciting film of great golf.
Members of the Ontario Golf Association
may rent films and cassettes free of charge
and only have to pay handling charges. Films
are a great way to bringthe sunshine, color,
and excitement of golf nto your living room
all year round. 8 _,;.->w . 21

too often left on the shelf is the Rules of Golf.
