Hensall Figure Skating Club registration set for September 23 at Mensal) arena Hensall Correspondent SUSAN HARTMAN 262-2449 The Hensall Figure Skating Club will Hold registration on Tuesday, September 23 from 7 to 9'p.m. at the Hensall Arena. Skating will start Tuesday, • October 14. For more information call Bonnie Lawrence at 262- 2511. NEW SEASON The Three Links Seniors began their new season with a potluck supper. ' President Allan Volland opened the meeting by welcoming all present. When business closed euchre was played. Winners were: pink card high, Ruby Bell; white card high, Elsie Carlisle; pink low, Irene Blackwell; white low, Dick Taylor; lone hands, Madeline Harburn. The lucky door prize was won by Irene Blackwell. REBEKAH LODGE The members of Amber Rebekah lodge met September 3 for their regular meeting. Noble Grand Sister Lois Jones welcomed all the members. Vice Grand Sister Bonnie Upshall reported for the visiting committee.. It was learned that Sisters Gladys Coleman and Pearl Sltaddick are improving nicely following surgery earlier in the year. Several thank you notes were received and Sister Beatrice Richardson thanked the sisters for the gift and cards received on her 50th wedding anniversary. The district deputy president will make her official visit on October 1 to install officers for the year. Following the meeting a lovely potluck lunch was enjoyed. SHUFFLEBO ARD • The Happy Pushers would like to thank Rolly Vanstone for his remarkable job of repainting the shuffleboard courts, We are hoping the usual crowd will return now that holidays are over. Newcomers are always welcome. Shuffling takes place every Thurs- day afternoon at the Arena. NORTH CREST NEW S Jessie Armstrong visited in London with family on Friday prior to her granddaughter's leaving for a year in England. Another potluck was held last Monday night, 18 attended. Rev. Stan McDonald and his cousin, Ethel Wilson of Regina, were guests of honor .prior to Stan's leaving for Corunna. Sorry to learn of Olga Chipchase's sudden illness while on vacation in Vancouver. She is wished a speedy recovery. Irene !inlayson attended the funeral of Keith Hesselwood of Blyth on Thursday. A surprise visitor with Glen McKnight last W ednesday was his grandson Gary Gravett of Port Elgin. UCW MEETS Unit 2 of the Hensall United Church Women met September 8 at the cottage where Kay 'and Ron Mock are living. The meeting began with a potluck served by hostesses Eleanor Mansfield and Beatrice Richardson assisted by Kay. Mona Alderdice conducted the meeting and opened with a poem and devotion with scripture and an article on invisible price tags. Jean W areing gave a study on the Profile of Floyd Steinhauer, an Indian living near Saddle Lake. This was taken from the mandate. The regional meeting is to be held in Crediton September 28 and the general meeting October 6. Diane Gerstenkorn is in charge of Stewardship. Hazel Corbett gave a report on the Friendship House visit. Grace Drummond, Eleanor Mansfield and Beatrice Richardson thanked everyone for cards received. Mona ran two contests and visiting ended a lovely evening. LIVE -IT -UP • Pam Sangster, a geologist with the Ministry of Northern and Development in Timmins appeared on the Live -It -Up T.V. show last Monday evening. Pam is presently visiting with her family in Hensall. Mrs. Laird Mickle of Hensall was honored at a special birthday party on Sunday. The party was given by her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacMillan at their home in W aterloo. It was Mrs. Mickle's 80th birthday and all her family and grandchildren were invited for the occasion. VACATION OVER Mr. and Mrs. Greg Pullman of Hensall have recently returned from a vacation in the Almaguin Hills of Ontario. They were joined by friends from Montreal for a week of canoeing the "Mighty Magnetawan". The family stepped into their Canadian home to be greeted by a Christmas tree and suitable gifts for each person. The surprise had been prepared by thoughtful neighbors. At age 10, Mrs. Willert found adjustment older siblings. She laughingly revealed that the fad at the time for long hair on boys and short hair for girls resulted in both sexes being directed to the wrong school wash- rooms. She has also deliberately subdued her Irish accent "except when I get mad." Mrs. Willert previously worked at W est - lake Insurance in Zurich after taking a computer programming course at Fanshawe College. She describes herself as a person who "always likes something new to learn to do" and anticipates taking courses in municipal management.
