Ottawa does not have a monopoly on
smiling Irish eyes. Hensall now has a pair too,
in the person of Ansberth W illert, hired
recently to replace assistant clerk Kim
Marsden. Mrs. Willert emigrated from
Londonderry with her parents and eight
brothers and sisters in 1972.
She recalls arriving in Clinton on Christ-
mas Eve, prepared to forego Christmas that
year after her mother's explanation that
Santa would not find out the Bradley's new
address in time. The family stepped into their
Canadian home to be greeted by a Christmas
tree and suitable gifts for each person. The
surprise had been prepared by thoughtful
neighbors.
At age 10, Mrs. Willert found adjustment
older siblings. She laughingly revealed that
the fad at the time for long hair on boys and
short hair for girls resulted in both sexes
being directed to the wrong school wash-
rooms. She has also deliberately subdued her
Irish accent "except when I get mad."
Mrs. Willert previously worked at W est -
lake Insurance in Zurich after taking a
computer programming course at Fanshawe
College. She describes herself as a person
who "always likes something new to learn to
do" and anticipates taking courses in
municipal management.
Clerk Betty Oke said she received 60

Although Mrs. Willert did not begin her
job until September2, she accompanied Mrs.
Oke to a shower for her predecessor, where
she met the members of council and other
municipal employees. She noted the good
rapport among the people who work for the
village, and appreciated the councillor's
friendly attitude which quelled her nervous-
ness.
"They gave me "fool's pardon'; they put
me at ease," she said with Irish charm.

WIDOWS ARE EASY PREY
— OR ARE THEY?
Widows must be wary of frauds and
schemes, C 0 D deliveries for clothing,
appliances, ex -pensive fishing tackle or
"telephone ordered" merchandise and
subscriptions are suspect and need not
be honored by the widow in most
ins'fanCes.
We have seen published an account of
one wise widow who was approached by
a publisher's "representative" who
wished to include her late husband in a
scientists' "Who's Who" book. The
text would be $500 and the inclusion of a
photo brought it to $750.
The widow agreed to meet with the
representative at a certain place, date
and tiime...during office hours at her
lawyer's place of business! Having a
lawyer expose the fraud neatly saved
