The 12th Annual Walton Squirts Tourna-
ment began August 22-23 but was cancelled
on the Friday night due to rain. It continued
.this weekend with Clinton winning the "B"
championship and Mitchell capturing the
"A" for the second year
Teams taking part were Winthrop, �Bel-
grave, Brussels, Hullett Township,WW
Mitchell, Clinton, Bluevale, Belmore and
Colborne Township.
Play got underway at 6:30 a.m. August 22
with Belgrave defeating W tnthrop 14 to 9.
This was followed by Belmore winning
against Brussels 5 to 1. The final Friday night
game saw home team Walton defeating
Hullett Township 9 to 1.
Saturday morning dawned cloudy and with
fingers crossed Mitchell and Clinton squared
off the first game. W hen the rains came
Mitchell had defeated Clinton 18-2. The
remainder of the tournament was cancelled
and rescheduled for September 5-8.
Friday night at 7 p.m. saw Colborne losing
to Bluevale 12-5. This was followed by
Belgrave beating Brussels 17-3.
The first game Saturday morning saw
Belmore defeating Winthrop 4-2. The next
game between Hullett Township and Clinton
was a real battle. It took 11 innings before
Clinton finally came out victorious with a
score of 9-8. This was followed by Mitchell
defeating Walton 3-1 In a well played game
by both teams.
Colborne Township then met Belgrave and
lost to them 5-4 in another close game. The
next game saw Bluevale winning over
Belmore 5-1.
The 'B" final for the Gerald Ryan
Memorial Trophy went at 3:30 with Clinton
and Belgrave battling to a 10-8 score in
Clinton's favor.
The "A" final for the Don Achilles
Memorial Trophy saw Mitchell playing which
Mitchell won 9-0.
The four final teams received crests and 10
boys received 8100 and a hat donated by
McGavin Farm Equipment for a clean home
run.
The Walton Area Sports Club thank all the
coaches and plite well behaved boys for
taking part in the tournament. Also special
thanks is extended to all volunteer help in the
booth, umpiring, announcing and odd jobs.
Walton players were: Mike Nolan, Brett
Lee, Greg Fritz, Danny Blake, Randy
McClure, Matt Lee, Mark Nolan, Chris
Stevenson, Greg Clark, Robbie Shortreed
and Danny Taylor.
Coaches were Don and Pat Nolan.
