Blyth Festival offers
locals a chance
to be a star
This is your opportunity to be a star) A
chance to shy re the limelight with the
professional actors on stage.
The Blyth Festival is seeking "volunteers"
to participate' in each performance of
Cake -W alk by Colleen Curran. (Cake -Walk
opens August 26 and plays through to
September 13, 23 performances in all. ) This is
an equal opportunity position - men, women,
and children are all eligible.
All you have to do is call the "Quiz Master"
before Friday, August 29, any time between 9
a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday- Friday, at the Blyth
Festival Administration Office, 523-4345,
and answer the skill -testing question - On
what special day do the events in the play
Cake -Walk take place? The first people
correctly answering this question will be
offered one pair of free tickets to a
performance of Cake -Walk, and the oppor-
tunity for one of the pair to walk up on stage at
the end of the performance, don an apron,
grab a cake - and take a bow along with the
rest of the cast.
If you've always wanted to know what it
feels like to be on the other side of the
footlights, now is your chance. Just pick up
the telephone and call the "Quiz Master" at
523-4345, guess the answer to the skill -test-
ing question, and you too could be a star.

Theatre offers 'The Potato People' play,_
Huron Country Playhouse's special offer-
ing of light-hearted entertainment for young
people will be illuminating the stage on
August 19 for two performances only of
Theatre Beyond Words (The Potato People).
Audiences of all ages will just love this special
event.
Theatre Beyond Words will be bringing
their family of "Potato People" along with a
zany collection of characters to the Playhouse
stage at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday,
August 19, 1986. This troupe has entertained
the young and old alike around the world with
performances in Japan. Hong Kong, France,
'Melville Boys' a
The Melville Boys is a very funny, yet
moving story which runs at Playhouse II from
August 5-16. The Melville brothers have
planned a relaxing weekend at the cottage;
but, the unexpected arrival of two attractive
sisters causes a hilarious chain of events
which changes their relationship forever.
The play is set in a lake -side cottage wherE
the Melville brothers (Murray Oliver anc
USSR and across North America. The
company consists of five highly talented
artists with a wealth of performing experi-
ence. Their shows combine the uses of
speech, music, sound effects and mime.
This special show written for the whole
family is called Double Play and the fun
begins when the children are left alone at
home to babysit. The result is a new look for
the house, a breakdancing contest and an
hilarious chain of events. The Potato People
consisted Momma Potato, Pappa Potato and
the precocious little Nancy Potato. Families
can identify with the comical situations that

Theatre Beyond Words' Potato People can

incorporates plenty of action and excitement
to hold the attention of the young people in
the audience, and subtle humor and reactions

Don't be discouraged, tickets
"Sorry, we have no tickets left for that
performance." That's becoming a familiar
refrain at the Blyth Festival Box Office these
days as tickets are selling quickly. "This is
normal for the height of the holiday season"
said General Manager, Brenda Doner. "But
people shouldn't get discouraged - we do still
have tickets for many performances."
Gone to Glory has proved the most popular
play to date, with numerous performances
sold out even before the play opened!

The Legion Seniors Golf Tournament is
scheduled for Saturday, August 23. Anyone
over 50 who is a Legion member is eligible to
play, but should put his name on the list
provided on the bulletin board to enable the
committee in charge to get prizes and lunch
