Surprise party for 40th anniversary

John and Agnes Walsh, formerly of the St.
Columban area and now living in Stratford,
were guests of honor at a surprise party given
by their family on Saturday, August 2 at the
Knights of Columbus Hall in Stratford. It was
their 40th Wedding anniversary.
The evening began with Holy Mass
celebrated by their nephew from Chatham,
Father Andrew Dwyer.
Family members from St. Columban
attending the celebration were Ron and Mary
Ryan, Joe Ryan, 'Kris Berry, John Ryan,
Mary Catherine Vincent, Marg Ryan, Sandra
Claessens and Paul, Stephen, Kathleen, Bill
and Julianne Ryan.
Also attending from this area were John's
sisters, Mary Ryan, Teresa and Ferg Feeney,
Rita and Ray Coombs and many of their
family members and relatives from Stratford,
Toronto, Willowdale, Longeuil, Quebec,
Hamilton, Chomedy, Quebec, Kitchener,
Waterloo, Winnipeg, Scarborough, Rexdale,
Chatham, Windsor, London and Thames -
ford.

Congratulations are extended to Robert
Knetsch and Mary Ann McIver who were
united in marriage on Saturday, August 9 at
St. Columban Catholic Church by Father
Andrew Sipek.
Mary Ann is the daughter of Lou and Joan
McIver and Robert is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arie Knetsch.

Father Frank Moylan, S.F.M. of Santa
Domingo is spending some holidays with
Mary Moylan and other friends and relatives
in the St. Columban area. Also visiting with
the Moylans is Sister Jean Moylan of
Windsor and Catherine Janossy of Miss's-
' sauga.
Sister Mary Eckert of Chatham and Sister
Margaret Rose Eckert of Strathroy visited
last Wednesday with Alphonse and Annie
Cronin and Clarence and Cecilia Ryan.
ANNUALPICNIC
Families , of the Knights of Columbus
members of the Father Stephen Eckert
Council attended the annual picnic on
Sunday, August 10 at the Knights of
Columbus Hall in St. Columban.
A number of races were held for the
children with prizes for the winners. A
potluck supper, hot dogs and corn on the cob
were enjoyed by all.
Gerry and Karen Ryan, Gary and Ann
Cronin, Detains Cronin and Wayne and
Malita Cronin attended the wedding cere-
mony and reception for Greg Gamble and
Colleen Dunn who were united in marriage ofl
Saturday, August 9 at St. Anne's Church,
Ancestor.
Sister Mary Eckert of Chatham, Sister
Margaret Eckert of Strathroy, Clarence and
Cecilia Ryan, Jerome and Theresa Kelly of
Kinkora, Keith and Rita Kelly of RR1 ,
Stratford and Jerry and Marie Eckert of Owen
Sound attended a surprise birthday party for
Annie Cronin on Friday evening. Annie was
presented with a birthday money tree with 65
new one dollar bills on it from her brothels
and sisters and in-laws.
On Saturday evening the family and
friends of Alphonse and Annie Cronin
attended a barbecue and social gathering at
the Cronin home honoring their mother on
her birthday.

guests of Mrs. Bill Binning,' Mitchell,

A picnic supper at the home of the
president, Kay Smale, was a highlight Of the
Family and Consumers meeting of the Staffa
W omen's Institute.
Mrs. Jack Burchill presided and intro-
duced the guest speaker, her son, Bob
Burchill, who gave an interesting and
informative talk on his work at the J. Purdue
Centre in St. Marys. He told about the
shelters workshop, where consigned wood
work is accomplished by those attending the
workshop. Bob was thanked by Mrs. John
Drake.
Mrs. Smale presided for the business when
final plans were made for August 9. Mrs.
Charles Douglas volunteered to attend a
meeting of the three Districts representatives
at the OMAF office on August 27. Mrs. Loyd
Miller gave a report of the recent Perth South
