Brodhagen hall. More than 625 halves of chicken were cooked for
the hungry people, as Rudolph Bauer, left, of RR 6, Mitchell and
Ken Smith of Bornholm prepare some of the food through the thick

Salt -water Moon next at Huron Country Playhouse
The award-winning play, Salt -Water Moon
opened at the Playhouse on July 29 for two
weeks of performances. AuthorDavid French
tells the timeless story of two young people in
love, in a beautiful play touched .with the
magic of a summer night in Newfoundland.
Salt -Water Moon is playful and irresistibly
charming, full of wit and the distinct flavor of
Newfoundland. This award-winning play has
been a hit from coast to coast and provides the
perfect combination of humour and romance.
The Globe and Mail called it "a gem of a play,
an old fashioned IoVe song that is affecting,
funnyand as evocative as a dream."
Aferayear of work on the mainland, Jacob
Mercer, played by Steven Sutcliffe, returns to
Coley's Point, to recapture the heart of Mary
Snow played by Laurie Paton the girl he
abandoned when he abruptly left town a year
before. In his absence, Mary has become
engaged to the local school teacher. Jacob
tries everything to woo her love again,
everything from running down Mary's fiance
to sparking Mary's jealousy with stories of all
the girls he took to the movies in the big city.
He even pretends ignorance of the constella-
tions, ahnost turning an astronomy lesson
into a kissing session.
DirectorSteven Schipper adds "this is my
favorite ,play of the season. kt's such a
beautiful play, and so romantic, yet its humor
and bravery allow it to be loved by even the
toughest heart." Brian Perchaluk, Huron
Country Playhouse's Resident Designer will
bring to life on stage, this quaint Newfound-
land outport with lighting design by Adak
Redish. •

assistance of Labatt's Ontario Breweries and
runs at the Playhouse from July 29 to August
