IN MEMORIAM BENNEWLES: In loving memory of a dear husband father, grandfather and great grandfather, Edwm Bennewies who went to his rest on August 3, 1984. Your memory we treasure We oft times think of you, At our family get togethers, The. missing link is you. We talk and laugh and no one sees The pain we grin and bear, The heartache we all suffer, When we see your empty chair, But God who loves the world so much, Gives hope to all mankind, We will meet again in paradise, When God makes all things new. Sadly missed by his wife Susan and faa-31mill . 42. ENGAGEMENTS Weekend -T- (Continued from Pale A2) There was, of course, more on their minds than that as we soon found out. Seems it was interrogation time. "Do you have a cottage in here?" they asked. "No." "Then where are you going at this time of night (let the records show it was 10:30 p,m,)?" "To visit a friend." "Do they know you're coming?" Dumb;questlon. Of course they don't know we're coming. W e just thought we'd drive the 600 kilometres on the off -chance they alight be around on a Thursday night. "You do realize of course that people will be sleeping at this time of night?" Oh really, Wed likely be doing that by now if you'd let us get on with our journey. Besides if they're expecting us they'll more than likely be awake - in fact they may even be worrying about us because we most obviously have been detained. "Who is it you're going to see?" The party is named. "We've never heard of them. Are you sure they have a cottage here?" Almost positive. "Well, their nameAeas on the sign back there, I've been here 'before, and we also have a map. Would you like to see it?" (Let the records now show that since the father of the party we were on our way to visit is by vocation a map drawer for the government there was no mistaking we were in the right spot.) Looks authentic. Looks like you want the second cottage from the right. Do you think you'll be able to find the cottage with this map." • Well, if we can't we're morons. SIMPSON- HOEGY Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Simpson, Maysville, Ontario announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Mary Dianne to Douglas Lavern, son of Mr, and Mrs. Lavern Hoegy, Dublin, Ontario. Finally they took a different fork hi the road and we headed on to where we presumed the cottage to be. WellIguess we're morons, because we bit three different cottages before being tracked down again and guided to the right one. The conversation went something like.... "Where is that stupid cottage." "Maybe if we head back to the main fork and turn left." '!Are you sure?" "No, but let's do something. There's someone with a flashlight coming our way and I don't reallywant to be questioned by the police again." "Okay" (the flashlight draws nearer) "Wait, I think I hear someone calling my name, It must be "Are you sure?" "I think so." "Well, should I wait here." "I don't know." "Well the flashlight's getting closer. Are you sure it's...." "Lock your door and wind up your window." At this point we are very close to screaming but we recognize the' bearer of the beam to be our intended hostess. Massive relief sets in. "You jerks," she says. "I've been chasing you all over the place. • You kept driving around and around the cottage. Now will you get your act together, we're over here." To prevent us getting lost again she enters the car and directs us across the 100 yards of terrain separating us from the cottage. At last - a place to call home. And that's only day one of our adventure. There'll be more - much more! Annie arrives in Bend Auditions were held in Toronto, London and Grand Bend this past spring as hundreds of aspiring youngsters gathered with hope in their. hearts and a glimmer in their star -struck eyes. Their dream was to be cast in Huron Country Playhouse's production of the famed Broadway musical Annie. General Manager of the Playhouse, Heather Redick was "overwhelmed by all the interest, enthusiasm and talent witnessed among the local, non-professional young people at these auditions. It's been very rewarding. So many wonderfully appropriate children turned up, the Playhouse has been granted concessions by Actor's Equity Association in order to allow for the casting of extra local youngsters in Annie. Some of the children are Ailsa Craig's own Julie De Vree; Arkona's Angela Richter; Chatham's Susan Carter; Clinton's Jessi Fond; Corunna's Jamie Bracewell; Dashwood'% Kelly Hoffman and Jennifer W elgand; Exeter's Melanie Philips; Forest's Rachel Bartlett and Mary Greiner; Goderich's Rebecca Penn, Jackie Rau and , Tanya Ross; Grand Bend's Sarah Bannister, Chantelle Crabe and Patti Desjardine; Hensali's Victoria Bisback; London's Andrea Bettger, Jacki Dykes, Karen Suzuki and Stephanie Tatylor; Mitchell' Cin, Noble ' Viand .S(lYhta'i#-Alti;tie;'Stdc j: lVflL i"'fhYid W lggins Milsom). Annie, book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, is the smash hit Broadway musical, recipient to several awards -- a Tony for Best Musical, a Grammy for Best Show Cast Album, the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical and a Theater World Award to name a few. Annie has been performed in theatres around the world -- Washington D.C., St. Louis, Detroit, Chic- ago, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Australia, Japan and Mexico; as well as having toured throughout Canada. Meehan's book is set in the Depression and opens in the city orphanage where Annie (Sudbury's Theresa Stewart), has dwelled since her parents abandoned her as a baby. After an eleven year stay, Annie decides that it is high time that she locates her missing parents and runs away. Returned promptly by one of the New York's finest, she is selected by Oliver Warbuck's (a wealthy, single entrepreneur) secretary to spend the Christmas holidays at the Warbuck mansion. Needless to say, the small red-headed orphan adds vitality and spirit to the festive season and touches eyyergopp s heart with x " 4,11( i;, hole. 'file r`e§tis >jtbiTwayHistig(. Annie arrives in Grand Bend to preview August 12 and runs to September 6. There will be performances Friday, Saturday and Monday of the labour Day long weekend. Plenty of tickets are still available.
