Walton couple surprised by party for 10th anniversary

A surprise party was held Sunday, July 20
to honor Valerie and Bill Shortreed on their
10th wedding anniversary. The party was
held at the home of Mrs. Shortreed's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bose of Brodhagen.
Attending from this area were Ken and
Judy Shortreed, Jim, Robbie and Amy and
Wilfred Shortreed. Their anniversary was
July 24.
BALLTOURNAMENT
The W alton Ladies Slo-Pitch team held
another successful tournament on July 18.
19 and 20. Rain cancelled two Friday night
games until Saturday but hot and sunny
weather prevailed the rest of the weekend
allowing the tournament to run' on schedule.
Twelve teams participated in the three-day
tournament with a lot of good games enjoyed
by all.
The A and B. finals were played Sunday
afternoon with a good crowd enjoying two
very good ball games.
In the A championship game, the defend-
ing A champs from 1985, the Dublin ladies
were defeated by the Kinkora Outlaws 13 to
6. The two teams were tied at the end of four
innings, but Kinkora managed to slip ahead
with two runs in the fifth and five runs in the
seventh inning. Both teams played a good
game.
The B championship game saw the Atwood
Mamas defeat the Mitchell Nortons 8-4 in a
close game. The Atwood ladies jumped to a
quick lead with four runs in the first inning
and added two runs in the second and fourth
innings. The Mitchell Nortons earned single
runs in the second, third and fifth and
seventh innings. Both teams played a strong
game..

21, Brussels ladies 9, Saturday 7:45 a.m. -
Mitchell Ladies 9, Walton 4. Saturday at 11
a.m. Rain delayed from Friday night at
Winthrop Park, Mitchell Nortons 2, Trow-
bridge Tigers 4. Saturday, 9 a.m. Dublin 32,
Brodhagen Bombers 4. At 10:15 Kinkora
Outlaws 9, Atwood Mamas 7. At 11:30
Monkton 15, Blyth Bloopers 1.
Second round action saw three tied games.
Tournament rules indicated ties had to be
broken by the number of runners left on
base. Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Brussels 11
runners 15, Walton 11, runners 9. At 2 p .m.
Mitchell 6, Londesboro Angels 1. At 3:15
Mitchell Nortons 5, runners 12, Brodllagen
Bombers 5, runners 10. At 4:30 - Dublin 11,
Trowbridge Tigers 6. At 5:45 Atwood Mamas
10, Blyth Bloopers 3. At 7:00 Kinkora
Outlaws 11, Monkton 4.
With three teams advancing to both A and
B finals a bye was given to the team with the
best runs scored minus runs against average.

Viola Kirkby and Margery Huether return-
ed home from a train trip through the

Charles A. Swan at Fort Nelson, British
Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Webster,
Edmonton, Alberta.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Nolan and family and
Brad Taylor spent a few days this past week
holidaying at the Homestead Camp.

Skye. They also visited for a week with Mrs.
MacDonald's brother and sister in Lincoln-
shire.

Police and town
reach agreement

The town of Seaforth and its police
department have reached a working agree-
ment for 1986.
Town council recently passed a by-law to
authorize a contract of service with the
Seaforth Police Association. That by-law was
established following a request submitted on
behalf of members of the Association and the
Negotiating Committee of the town council.
