At Wingham Mary Finlayson and Olive Papple were fourth place winners and in Exeter they were third place winners. In ladies trebles held in Clinton July 22 winners in third place were Mary Finlayson, Monday night. On Thursday the ladies Whitney trophy tournament will be played and on Sunday the Sills tournament for mixed pairs. (SCOREBOARD Queens increase lead A win over the Louis McNichol squad, Tuesday evening at the lions Park, helped the Queen's Hotel team increase their lead in the Seaforth Ladies Softball League from one, to three points, over second place McNichol. Queens won the game 20-19. In other action Tuesday, Ken Smith Pools downed the Kent Murray team by a 28-20 margin, to pull into a second place tie with McNichol. STANDINGS W L . St. Marys finished fourth. The final meet of the season will be held Saturday, August 9 in Clinton. They started at 4 p.m. and played one game before a lovely potluck supper followed by two games after supper. Mary Yuill presented the Jack Yuill trophy to Doris Michie and Ida Evans, who had three wins and 23 . Second was Marjorie Coultes and FredaJohnston, third, Isabel Gibson and Muriel Whitfield and fourth, Elinore Hem- ingway and Mary Yuill, • In the men's section Gerald Gibson and George Johnston won the Jim Mair trophy. Second was Pat Rowland and Jack Bowman, third was Jim Coultes and Jim Mair and Jim Bowman and George Inglis took the consola- tion. Queens team leads in men's fastball Queens Hotel has held a big lead in Seaforth Mens Fastball League play for about three weeks, before losing two straight. On Monday, July 21 the Village squeaked a 2-1 win over the Queens with fine pitching coming from Mike Marion, winning over Mark McKellar. Also, Main Street outhit the Bear's to down them by a score of 7-2. W inning pitcher was Bob Beuttenmiller. On W ednesday, July23, the Bears held the Queens at a 6-5 loss in the bottom of the seventh inning with John Strangway driving in Moe Huard to put the game away. In the late contest the Villagers defeated the Firemen by a count of 2-1, LEAGUE STANDINGS Queens 23, Creamery 19, Main Street 16, Bears 16, Turf 16, Village 15, Topnotch 14, Firemen 5, 15 -inning contest highlights fastb Twelve teams participated in the Seaforth Men's Recreational Ball tournament on July 18, 19 and 20. Games were interrupted by rain on Friday night. Only one of three games was played. There were a few highlights in the tournament with one on Sunday morning. The Seaforth Queen's Hotel team and Lawries team from Blyth going fifteen innings. Rules for tournaments are seven innings or one hour -and -a -half time limit with ties to be broken. Doug Vock pitched fifteen strong innings only to have the winning run scored on a bad throw in the bottom of the 15th. Final score Queens 0, Blyth 1. Another exciting game was played be- tween defending toumament champs Port Elgin Chapparals and home town favorites Seaforth Villagers. Doug Leonhardt and Scott Christie both pitched a fine game. Leonhardt proved the better of the two, with many strike outs only to lose on a controversial call by the umpire at home plate. Final score, Port Elgin 1, Villagers 0. Don Williamson was the key hitter for the Villagers with an early inning double. The B final ended up being another close contest between Villagers and Lawries of Blyth. Mike Marion pitched a fine game, which Leonhardt finished. Rids Sclimegeour also pitched a fine game, only to have Brad Bromley to finish the game in a losing effort. Final score, Villagers 3, Blyth 2. In the A final Port Eight Chappa showed what they were made of with pitching from Wayne Christie and experience at the bat with a 7-1 win over the Goderich Sherwoods. Final score, Port.
