Forty-three years ago this month Canadian
Forces participated in the landing on the
Sicily. beaches. Two regiments, the Perths
and the Elgins' which were recruited from
W esti= Ontario had a number of rth
volunteers. In last week's Expositor, einothe
insert called The Spotter, there was an
interesting article about the Canadians
who fdught in Sicily and Italy. With over 500
Canadians buried in Sicily and nearly 6,000
lives lost in Italy, the European campaign
should not' overshadow the Italian campaign
as seeyns to be the case in many instances.
July 10, 1943 was a D Day, 11 months earlier
for the Canadians in Sicily and Italy.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember them.
