debt review transition process

concerned with farmers who are caught in rn
this time gap between royal assent and the
actual date when the Review Board will be 1
accepting applications.
The OFA president said the Federation will

this transition period. Farmers who need

Farmers who receive notification from
their financial institutions about outstanding
farm debts should contact the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture, said Harry Pelis-
sero, OFA president.
This applies to any notices served between
June 27, 1986 and the actual start date of
operation of the Farm Debt Review Board for
Ontario.
The Farm Debt Review Act, creating Farm
Debt Review Boards across the country, was
passed by the House of Commons on June 27,
and has received royal assent. However it has

Ontario Federation of Agriculture presi-
dent Harry Pelissero recently announced the
appointment of Joanne R. Sutherland as the
OFA's new' Executive Administrator.
Ms. Sutherland has extensive experience
in federal -provincial relations, with particu-
laremphas son agriculture. Her govemment
experience involved progressively ,senior
positions it policy-making and administra-
tion with the Governments of Manitoba and
Saskatchewan.
In the Government of Manitoba she worked
for the Departments of Finance and Agri-
culture. In Saskatchewan her experience
included work with the Executive Council,
the Department of Inter -governmental Af-

fairs, and the Department of Justice where d
she was Special Assistant to the Deputy 1
Attorney General.
Ms. Sutherland is a graduate of the '
University of Winnipeg in economics and c
political science, and studied at the Uni-
versity of Manitoba, Faculty of Law. She will
assume duties at the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture effective July 15, 1986.

marketing boards, commodity groups, co-

Growers eligible for new grants
Fruit and vegetable producers are eligible
for a grant on the latest in storage and
post-harvest treatment technology. The
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food is
funding a40 percent grant on the capital cost
of new equipment. The maximum amount is
$50,000 ($125,000 capital cost).
The project or equipment must be intended
to improve the quality of Ontario -grown fruit
and vegetables In the raw form. This includes
the purchase of newrefrigeration and
environmental control equipment for stor-
ages. The purchase and installation of new
post-harvest cooling equipment is also
included, Post-harvest conditioning and
quality improvement equipment would be
used to extend shelf -life, protect from storage,
disorders and enhance quality.
Approval of assistance must he received by'
the applicant prior to commencement of the
project. Payment of the grant will he made I
following a final inspection of the completed
Project.
The Fruit and Vegetable Inspection Branch,
801 Bay Street, 6th Floor, Toronto, Ontario,
M7A 2B2 are administering the program.,
The program nuns from July 1, 1986 to Mardi)
31, 1989. Brochures are available on the
