Ball team is reunited

A good crowd attended the reunion of the
Cromarty Senior Girls ball team hosted by
Mr. and Mrs, John Miller at their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Wallace and Mr.
and Mrs. John Miller had coached the girls
while they were together in the late 1970s,
Reminitcing and sports were enjoyed follow-
ed by a potluck dinner.
PEOPLE
Mr, and Mrs. Don Coburn, Mouth of
Keswick, New Brunswick, were recent guests
of Mr. and Mrs. John Templeman and family.
Congratulations to Jenny Fidler, Kip
Daynard, Marjorie Visscher, Joan Kerslake,
Jenny Barnes, Danny Elliott, who were
among the grade eight graduates at Upper
Thames Elementary School this year.
Jill Norris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Norris has accepted a teaching position with
Eastdale Elementary School ,in Listowel.
Congratulations Jill.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Norris and Jill were
among, the guests at the Skinner -Russell
wedding on Friday evening.
Barb Templeman, Rexdale, spent the
weekend with her family.
Michael Norris, Bale' d' Urfe' Quebec is
spending a week with Mrs. Orpha,Norris and
. Mr. and •Mrs. Bob Norris and family.
MUSHROOM FARM •
The ' members of the Staffa Women's
Institute recently visited the mushroom farm
of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Clarke, RR 3,
Mitchell.
They enjoyed a tour of the operation, saw
all stages of mushroom growing, tasted
mushroom snacks served by Mrs. Clarke and
received a mushroom recipe book, Mr. and
Mrs, Clarke were thanked by Mrs. George
Vivian.
The tour was planned by the Agriculture
and Canadian Industries conven ors,
Mrs,
Carter Kerslake and Mrs. George
with Mrs. Vivian hosting the remainderof the
meeting at her home in Mitchell.
Mrs. Vivian introduced Janet Gaffney,
Youth Employment Coordinator for Perth
County, who explained the Junior Agricul-
turalist program for urban youth between the
ages` of 18 and 18. She also explained the
Agricrew program which involves youth from
age 15 to 24. A crew consists of four people
and there are three crews available in Perth
County. if any farmers are interested in
booking an Agricrew for July or August,
Janet can be reached by calling the OMAF
.office in Stratford. Janet was thanked byMrs.
Carter Kerslake.
Mrs. Kerslake opened the meeting. Mrt.
Vivian gave some hints on mushrooms and
conducted a quiz. Joyce also read a paper
outlining the work of Women forrthe Support
of Agriculture.
in the absence of the president, Kay
Smale, Mrs. John Templeman presided for
the business. Mrs. Wm. Mahon read a letter
of thanks from Perth County Children's Aid,
and a letter from the F.W .1.0. secretary,
Mrs. Sam Johnston, regarding the C.W.I.F,
recommendations. An invitation to attend a,
picnicat McNaughton's Park, Exeter, hosted
by Hurondale Women's institute for August,
13, was accepted.
Mrs. Vivian and Mrs. Kerslake reported on
the workshop held recently in Russeldaie
on Water Resources and Financial Manage-
ment.
Plans were finalized regarding serving at a
wedding reception in August and reserving a
booth for the quilt ticket sales and draw at
Mitchell Fair.
A lunch was served by Mrs. George Vivian
and Mrs. Carter Kerslake.

Dow and their family, of Kailey, Tara and
Nevin to their community. For the last few
years theyhave been residing in lsstowel and
last Saturday moved into the farm where
Brian was raised. His parents, Mervin and
Betty Dow took up residence on Nelson Street
in Mitchell. Brian is employed at the new
truck centre at the west end of Mitdrell.
Muriel Scott. Mary Elliott. and Ruth Laing
joined over 80 women from Stratford -Huron
Presbyterial W .M .S. on Wednesday for a trip
to Camp Kintail. Huron Feathers at Suable
Beach and the Saugeen Indian Reserve near
Southampton. The Rev. Barbara Mchlath
showed slides of life on the reserve and gave a
very interesting history of its development.
Rev. McGrath explained some of the
problems they encounter with the govern-
ment, local people. etc.. as they try to better
their life. A Lively question period followed
and the general opinion of the group was that
more had been learned from the visit than
from a whole year of studying Canada's
native peoples.
John Scott's farm was a busy place on
Thursday when they held a grand opening
and open house for their new Master Feeds
dealership.
Eldon Allen was in Dorchester last
Monday taking part in the horseshoe
tournament at the Senior Citizens' Games. •

Danny 'Elliott and Christopher Scott lit the
candles that formed part of the floral
decorations for Cromarty Presbyterian
Church's anniversary service Sunday. The
junior choir, with the Sunday School pianist,
Carol Ann Scott, at the organ sang Joshua,

ne in the Spirit.
The Reverend Kenneth Knight was in
charge of the service with Betty Lou Nonis at
the organ. Mr. Knight spoke briefly of the
late Mrs. Calder (Lila) McKaig's work in the
church Sunday School, and Women's Mis-
sionary Society, and dedicated the junior
choir's gowns in her memory.
During the service. Rev. Kenneth and Mrs.
Knight were presented with a picture and a
floral arrangement of roses by the Cromhen-
ex clerics of session, Jean Carey, Cromarty,
Bob Bell. Hensel! and Jim

congratulations of the three congregations to
Mr. Knight in honor of his 25 years in the
ministry of the Presbyterian Church in
Canada.
The guest speaker for the anniversary was
Reverend Charles Falconer, a former mem-
berof the congregation. Previous to entering
the ministry, Mr. Falconer farmed two miles
west of Staffa, and is now retired and living in
Strathroy.
