Martin, formerly a resident of this town, but now of San Francisco, California, left the residence of their brother Mr, John Martin, pf Morris, and travelled the entire distance to San Francisco themselves and without any protection. Their brother just received a letter stating the plucky little fellows arrived in safety, making the trip in six and a half days by rail. Mr. D.D. Rose returned home from a two month business trip through Manitoba and the Northwest last week. During his visit he met Mr. David McNaught, Mr. Jas. 11. Benson, Mr. Henry Cameron, Mr. A.G. McDougall and many other Seaforthites. In fact he did not strike a town between Winnipeg and Calgary„ in which he did not meet frmer Huromtes. Maybe the town needs to get someone in here who can do a better job of explaining how we can improve ourselves than what Fm doing." Mr. Crocker told cotn5dl what's good for the downtown core is good for the municipal- ity. 'Some people feel thittprogram would just be saving old buildings or just helping business. But it would leave behind a strong, viltble downtown codoccyynr1totall meals ..tike,„ mainstay of theI'dartlmilnity so what's good for the downtz sn is good for the entire municipality. nib cohsultaint would also be developing industrial strategies that would be good for the town." "If our chance," saidCouneliiorCarolanne Doig. Councillor Doig pointed out when the program was voted down before it was because of financial restrictions, not a lack of confidence in the program. "If our Main Street goes down the tubes, we go down the tubes. If we go in favor of this project at least we can say we gave it (our main street) a chance," she said. "W e've spent a lot of money in the past on stuff people don't see. This is something people do see." Other areas discussed at Thursday's budget meeting included a decision to delete the purchase of video eeqquiptn ft; "e6tbnnted to cast $2,800; We dedstoit irradd'*E,80trto the budget to pay for interior improvements to the town hall, and to spend $1,500 on capital improvements to the library. In other business council agreed to delete the resurfacing of the southerly blocks of Louisa and Ord Street from the 1986 road program and to add the resurfacing of the first block of Victoria Street. Council deleted the Louisa Street resurfac- ing in consideration of the Public Utilities placing a watermain on that street. They were advised the southerly blocks of Louisa and Ord Streets should be allowed to compact and be resurfaced in 1987. Resurfacing of the first block of Victoria Street will cost $12,000 and S9,000 will be ,saved by not paving part of Louisa and Ord Streets. To estimated result of these . chtutges would be a $8,300 over expenditure. . Also passed by council Thursday was a motion to grant public works employees a four per cent increase. That increase was in proportion with other increments given to town employees over the year. mmamomme $$'f ix Y E,T R t s'tUS OPEN: Mon. -Fri. 8-12, 1-5:30 Saturday 8-12:30 DELIVERY AVAILABLE ERAPP l F3LR SEAFORTH, ONTARIO NOK 1WO TELEPHONE 527.0910 TIMBER SPECIALTIES ST0RMWOoD7 "Your beretboyknAMW tbirgWood" 2 x 4 .42 Lin. 2 x 6 .64 Lin. 2 x 8 .87 Lin. 2 x 10 1.25 Lin. 2x12 1.66 Lin. 4 x 4 .87 Lin. 4 x 6 1.26 Lin. 6 x 6 1.92 Lin. wr.
