Rattle photo Visiting priests attend 75th St. Columban Correspondent MRS. CECILIA RYAN 345-2028' The 75th anniversary celebration of the present St. Columban Roman Catholic Church was held on Sunday. Holy Mass at 10 a.m. was celebrated by Father Andrew Sipek and visiting priests .Father Coughlin of Chatham, former pastor, Father Thos, McQuaid, S.F.M. of St.Lucia, Father Gordon Kennedy, Basilian Father, of Toronto, both priests from St. Columban parish and Msgr, C.G. Adams of Mitchell, a visitor. Joseph Hicknell, seminarian was also in the sanctuary, Brother Joseph McQuaid of Uxbridge also attended. Homily was given by Rev. Father Ken- nedy, readings were done by Sister Viola Feeney and Sister Irene Connolly. A picture of the Holy Father, John Paul 2, bestowing his blessing to St. Columban parishioners carried by Jim and Mary •O'Connor was placed in the sanctuary before mass. A message from Father Frank Moylan of Santo Domingo, who was unable to attend, was read extending his wishes. Music and hymns for the mass were supplied by the Si Columban choir under the direction of Mary Coyne and organist Patricia Crowley. After mass a light lunch and social hour followed in the church hall. Many former parishioners and religious Sisters from the Order of St. Joseph and Order of the Ursulines attended. Deceased: Sister Hester Duffy, SACRAMENTOFCONFIRMATION Forty-nine candidates from St. Columban Church, St. Columban, St. Bridgid's Church, Logan, St. Patrick's Church, Dublin, St. Vincent De Paul Church, Mitchell and St. Ambrose Church, Brussels received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Columban. Most Rev. John Michael Sherlock, Bishop of the Diocese of London confirmed the candidates during Holy Mass. Priests participating at Holy Mass for confirmation were: Fr. Lobach, Logan, Fr. Carrigan, Dublin; Fr. Sipek, St. Columban: and Fr. Remark of St. Peter's London. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of the Fr, Stephen Eckert Council formed a guard of honor during the procession of the candidates, their sponsors, Bishop Sherlock and Clergy before and after Mass. Michael Van Drunen left last week for a three week stay in Holland where he will visit with relatives.
