Theseniors of zone 8 Host recently at the
i shay Centre in Goderich. One hundred and
fokty-six were present and there are 900
members in Zone 8.
A' bustrip to U.S.C.O. headquarters in
Topnto is being arranged, ' The annual
Convention of Seniors of Ontario will be in
KingstonAugust 10 and 11. The Zone 8 Fall
Rally will be in Dungannon.
The local Brussels club met in the Legion
April 23, The. meeting was chaired by
Marguerite Sanderson, in the absence of
president Alice McArter. One minute of
silence was observed for Eva Gordon. Cards
were signed for Roberta Simpson and Ethel
Long. Euchre and Uno were played and a
social time followed.
The next meeting is in the Legion May 21 at
2 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
NURSING HOME NEW S
It hes been 'another busy week at Callander
Nursing Home.
Saturday Anne Smith played the piano and
entertained residents.
Sunday Rev. Bonnie Lamble conducted the
weekly service. Also on Sunday Dorothy
Higgins attended Belgrave United Church
and spent the afternoon with her brother Ross
and family. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Stewart
spent the day at their homestead with 42 of
their family in attendance. Lottie McCutch-
eon went to George and Barb McCutcheon's'
for supper,
On Monday everyone thoroughly enjoyed
the singing and the magic tricks of Earl and
Martha Heywood. Lottie McCutcheon was
out for supper with Casey and Betty
McCutcheon. Doug and Evelyn Purdy from
the Salvation Army paid their weekly visit.
The residents enjoyed cards on Tuesday.
The Blyth Singers entertained and then
visited with the residents on Wednesday.
Mel and Lois McCutcheon had Lottie
McCutcheon tor supper on Thursday.
On Friday Anne Smith was once again at
the piano playing hymns. In the afternoon
Cindy Evans, Jean Evans and Karen Cardiff
led the discussion group. They also brought
some tasty blueberry muffins with them. The
Friday evening service was provided by Rev.
Doug Zehr of the Mennonite Church and his
group. Heather Baan played hymns on the
piano. Lynn Winger read the scripture.
Laurel Winger read a poem and Laurel and
Lynn Winger sang two songs. Jack Cathers
remains in University Hospital and he is
wished a speedy recovery.
FINALCARD PARTY
There was a good attendance at the
Brussels Legion Ladies Auxiliary's last card
party of the season, The prizes went to the

ACHIEVEMENT NIGHT
The Achievement Night for "Etiquette for
the '80s" was held in the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre Wednesday
evening,
Richard Hamilton from the OMAF office
welcomed everyone and gave the opening
remarks. There were 16 clubs that gave club
presentations. The following received awards
for completing six projects: Martha Boon -
Ethel III; Jennifer Miners - Ethel III; Kim
Zettel - Ethel III; Kathy Graber - Brussels 1;
Dianne Hall - Brussels 1; Laura Hallahan -
Blyth 11; Hazel Rae - Wroxeter; Laura
Gedcke, Fordwich; Anita Szmek - Fordwich;
Marlene Coulter - Gorrie; Janice Klumpen-
hower - Wroxeter.
The following completed 12 projects: Ruth
11'ggins - Belgrave; Connie Alcock - Ethel III;
Leanne Armstrong - Brussels 1; Rose Ann
Machan - Blyth II; Melanie Sanderson -
Gorrie.
For completing 18 projects Peggy McLel-
lan of Brussels II received a travelling alarm
clock. New member awards went to Kim
Duskocy, Brussels II and Darlene Darlow -
Bluevale 1. The award is for any member who
gets three new members to join 9-H.
Five year leader awards went to Merilyn
Leckie - Fordwich; Sharon Darlow - Bluevale
1; Karen Stewart - Blyth II and Ula Richmond

INSTITUTE CARD PARTY
The Majestic Women's Institute of Brus-
sels served a hot supper to 56 people on
Monday. The remainder of the evening was
spent playing euchre.
The prize for the lady with the most points
went to Verna Thomas, and high man was
Gordon Murray. Jim Smith ended the
evening with the travelling lone hand prize in
his possession. The folks at the lucky table
were Viola Kirkby, Freda Pipe, Eluned
McNair and Thelma Spear. A birthday draw
was made for each month of the year and the
winners were: Sarah Stephenson, Jane De
Vries, Anne Smith, Jean Workman, Sam
Sweeney, Helen Elliott, Wilda Baillie, Leona
McDonald, Adah Smith, Viola Kirkby, Doris
McCall and Jean Bewley.
The proceeds of $150 were donated to the
Canadian Cancer Society.
On Wednesday May 14 the Majestic
Women's Institute is sponsoring a well-
known speaker, Elaine Gotschall at the
Brussels Public School at 8 p.m. Her topic will
be "Food and Health." She will explain how
diet affects mental health, especially that of
children. Draws will take place at this
meeting on the articles displayed in Brussels
5c to $1 store. Everyone is invited to attend.
UNITED CHURCH NEWS
The worship celebration at Brussels United
Church was, Give Thanks to the God of
Heaven: His Love is Eternal." The choir had
their anthem presentation. The sermon given
by Rev. Carpentier was "The Necessity of
Repentance,'
