HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1986-04-30, Page 7WALTON AND AREA Mckillop council sets mill rates THE HURON EXPOSITOR, APRIL 30, 1986 — A7 The proposed 1986 road and general municipal budgets were among the items up for discussion at a recent meeting of McKillop Township Council. In regard to that discussion council voted to set. the mill rate for residential and farm properties at 85.527 mills and commercial and business properties at 100.620 mills. The tax installment dates will be May 28 and October 8. In other business council agreed to accept the financial report for 1985 as prepared by Monteith, Monteith and Company, Charter- ed Accountants; approved a grant of $500 in support of the Vanastra Recreation Centre, and approved a grant in the amount of $250 to the Clinton Public Hospital. Council also moved to oppose the land severance of 3,5 acres for a residence and mixed livestock farming purposes being the south part of Int 6, Concession 6, Township of McKillop owned by John DeKroon. Council recommended a distance of 100 feet be required between the barn and property line for a manure storage facility. Council moved to approve the following tile drainage loan applications; $4,200 Conces- sion 4, north part Lot 1; $4,200 concession 5, Lot 1 and $6,000 Concession 14, north part Lot 26. First and second reading was given to a by-law to provide for repairs tp the Main Branch of the Hamilton Municipal Drain; council accepted the request from Edward McClure, owner of Lot 34, Concession 14, for repairs to the McArthur Munici'gal Drain and council appointed W .E. Kelley and Asso- ciates Limited to prepare a report for repairs to Branch No. 1, Closed Portion of the Dodds Municipal Dram under Section 78 of the Drainage Act; and was advised by Steve Murray he will be closing approximately 350 feet of main drain located on his property of Lot 5, Concession 12. Robinson Farm Drainage Limited was awarded the tender for construction of the "B" drain of the Nash Municipal Drain. The company received the tender based on their bid of $14,501. A lower tender Submitted by Parker and Parker Limited was not accepted as they did not meet the tender requirements for installing 16 inch tile. Council also accepted the tender received from Robert Nicholson Construction Limited for the sum of $17,889.62 for construction of the Higgerson-Ryan Municipal Drains; ac- cepted a tender for consnuction of the open portion of the O'Reilly Municipal Drain for the sum of $450 from Kirkby, McCallum and McClure Drainage and for the closed portion a tender in the amount of $9,964.40 from Parker and Parker limited; accepted the tender received from Robiltson Farm Drain- age Limited for the sum of $9,099 for construction of the Barron Municipal Drain and accepted the tender of Pollard Brothers Limited for supplying, delivering and apply- ing liquid calcium chloride at $199.66 per flake ton equivalent (federal and provincial tax included). Council also gave first and second reading to a by-law to provide for a drainage works in the Township of McKillop, in the County of Huron and for borrowing on the credit of the municipality, the sum of $52,500 for the completion of the Kistner, Elligson and Drager Municipal drains and made a motion giving the road superintendent authority to engage C.A. McDowell limited to drill six drainage holes in the deck of the bridge located on Concession Road 6 and 7, Lot 22. Council also agreed payment of a voucher in the amount of $35,029.61 and one in the amount of $14,304.95 for the roads. Duff's UCW holds Spring Thankoffering Walton Correspondent MRS. BETTY McCALL 887-6677 The Spring Thankoffering of the United Church Women of Duff's United Church was held in the auditorium April 20. Guests were present from Northside United, Seaforth, Egmondville United, Bluevale United, Mel- ville Presbyterian, Brussels; Brussels Unit- ed; Blyth United, Winthrop United and Londesboro United. U.C.W. President Marion Godkin gave a warm welcome to everyone. Marie McGavin was organist. Helen Craig read the scripture and Marion Godkin gave the meditation. Olene Dennis said the prayer. The New life Singers accompanied by their pianist Julie Mills from W Ingham favored the group with several songs throughout the service. The ushers, Mary Humphries, Maxine Marks, and Maxine Houston, re- ceived the offering. Marion Godkin gave the offertory prayer. GUEST SPEAKER Leona McDonald introduced the guest speaker, Mary Ellen Knight, a teacher now in Brighton who had taught in the north at Moosenee at Moose Factory Island., She showed slides of her work in the school there and told of the different way of life. Dorothy Sholdice expressed thanks to Mary Ellen and the New Life Singes, presenting a small gift of money. Bonnie Lamble closed the service with prayer. CHURCH NEW S The official board met on Thursday evening to make plans for the new charge which will be The Walton-Bluevale Pastoral Charge beginning on July 1. They presented a stole to Bonnie Lamble for her coring ordination. It will be May 28 in the Harxiston Arena at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony. CHURCH WOMEN The May meeting of the U.C.W . with both units, will have as the guest speaker, Laurie Erb of the Seaforth Hospital. She is co-ordinator of the Palliative Care program with a new twist, a support service. All ladies are urged to attend this special meeting, May 7, LOCALBRIEFS Weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. 'Roily Achilles and family were Danny Achilles and Karen Atcheson, Stratford; Christine Achil- les and friend of Sebringville. Canvassers would like to thank all those who gave so generously to the Cancer Society when they called this past month. $206 was realized. Township to proceed with plan Morris Township Council has agreed to proceed with the township's secondary plan, by submitting the plan to the Huron County Planning and Development Committee. Council passed a motion at the April 15 meeting, to submit the plan to the committee, for consideration for adoption by Huron County Council. Also at the meeting, council passed a bylaw setting the 1986 mill rates and approved the 1986 budget for the Township in the total amount of $1,170,336. Council also decided to leave the bylaw setting interest on tax arrears in effect for the time being. Interest on arrears is 15 per cent per annum and a discount of five per cent is allowed on the second installment of current taxes if both are paid by June 30 in the current year. The 1986 tax payments will be due as follows: 60 per cent on June 27 and 40 per cent on November 28. Major expenditures in the 1986 budget include: $306,300 for general road work; waste disposal, $20,000, recreation, $12,000; fire protection, $20,500; general govern- ment, $64,000; education, $515,175 and capital projects costs of $143,500. Taxation for the average residential property, valued at 3,000 assessment will be $608.34, farm and residential public; and $615.51, farm and residential separate. Farm property assessed at 8,000 would mean taxes of $1622.24, public and $1,641.36, separate.
