Jeannette Eybergen has been hired as classroom teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Stratford and the following teachers have been transferred, Joanne Melady from itinerant French teacher at St. Patrick's School in Dublin and St. Columban to classroom teacher at St. Columban school. Marybel Edye to be transferred from St. Patrick's School, Dublin (70 per cent) and Kitchener and research capabilities if it is aken over by the university. Mr. Eckert said he Ministry of Education feels there would be a big savings which could help reduce the deficit budget for the government. He said he felt the institute has been good. The Board approved the elementary school year calendar for 1986-1987 for nine profes- sional activity days and 186 instructional days ff Holy Name of Mary School, St. Marys (30 per cent) to Holy Name of Mary School for 50 per St. Coltimban Correspondent cent Special Education and 50 per cent MKS. All hirings or transfers are effective September 1, 1986. The board expressed opposition to the proposed transfer of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (O.I.S.E.) to the University of Toronto, although most trustees reported they did not understand what the merger would mean. W illiam Eckert, Direct- or of Education, said the Institute would be less than it is now if the transfer takes place. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. followed by refreshments and a social get together in the church basement. All parishioners and former parishioners from St. Columban are welcome to attend the celebration. W P.C.W. for May 12, and Seaforth Women's Missionary Society for April 24. The 1986 allocation of $1,000 was accepted. Joy Scott read the scripture related to the study book from Leviticus. Mary Elliott then presented a study on Indian lands and related treaties, and read an article from the London Free Press on The FSrst Canadians. She was assisted by Jean Carey, Helen Parsons and Roberta Templeman. Mrs. Laing played Edelweiss on the organ. PEOPLE Congratulations to Mrs. Stanley (Annie) Dow who celebrated her ninetieth birthday recently. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Allen on the birth of a new grandson, Jordan Francis Allen, of Crystal Lake. The sympathy of the community is extended to Dorothy and Harvey Dow and their family following the death of Dorothy's mother, Mrs. Clifford Dow, Mitchell.
