District Convention held
BY GORDON SCOTT, PRO
The District Convention held in Hanover on
the weekend was attended by 11 delegates,
including wives. Some 450 Legion members
and guests were present for the banquet and
afternoon meeting. The District includes
branches in the south from Exeter across to
St. Marys to Cambridge and to Meaford and
Tobermor?y in the north, with slightly over 50
branches in all.
Improvement of the Pension structure is
still the number one priority for veterans and
according to reports from D.V.A. and the
Provincial Service Officer, Veterans who
volunteered for active service but only saw
service in Canada are now being considered
as eligible for pension and W ar Veteran's
allowance. The Legion is actively campaign-
ing to have these veterans come under the
act. The Fall Convention is to be hosted by
Guelph October 18 and 19.
Two bowling teams were in Fergus on the
weekend attending the annual mixed invita-
tion bowling, but came away empty handed.
One of the reasons there is such a successful
bowling competition at the local branch is the
fact these two teams compete at other
bowling functions throughout the district.
Those branches in turn send teams to
Seaforth. •
The local Legion bowling league will be
bowling their last night on Friday with the
banquet and dance on Saturday. Any
member wishing to attend this banquet
please contact Al Smale as soon as possible.
The dance after the banquet is sponsored by
the Branch and all members and their wives
are invited to attend. Admission is free.
The grey cloth coat that was inadvertently
taken by mistake back in February has not
been returned as yet. Ti you are aware of this
mistake please get in touch with someone in
the Branch and have this mistake rectified.
There will be a meeting of the Diamond
Jubilee committee Thursday before the
regular meeting at 7 p.m. It will be to discuss
the Diamond Jubilee Hall and any new
business that might be introduced. Accord-
ing to Command the celebrations have now
been extended to the end of the year.
The regular meeting is also election night
this month, so please come out and cast a
ballot for the person best suited to do the job.
To a member of any organization this should
be considered top priority but it also gives one
a chance to share in the decision making
process that will be so important, especially
to the Legion, in the short years to come.
Renovations are now nearly complete. The
Legion makes apologies to any persons or

The Branch was saddened to hear of the
death of Comrade Morley Storey last week.
Morley was a life member and a past
treasurer of the Branch for some years. A
Legion funeral service was held on Tuesday
evening with approximately 60 comrades
attending. The branch mourns his passing
and offers its Gym athies to his family in their
loss of a husband and father.
They grow not old as we that are left grow
old. Age shall not weary them nor the years
condemn. At the going down of the sun and in
the morning we will remember them.
