Hibbert United Church Women met at the
Family Life Centre for their April meeting
with devotions and program led by Ada
Pethlck and Margaret Christie.
They dealt with recent development of the
church, re -native Canadians, and viewed a
film "As We See It." Also enjoyed were
Pauline Johnson's "Canadian Born" and a
Preservation Band recording "His Eye is on
the Sparrow."
Chaired by Verle Mahon the business
items included a decision to hold one
June -July meeting on July 2, a request for
materials for a planned church nursery, a

Dictionary speech subject
The dictionary was the subject of a speech
that won Lisa Bonstoppel an 11 -day trip to the
United Nations in New York City.
The Grade 11 Central Huron Secondary
School student won over six other students
who participated in the speaking contest held
at the Clinton Public School recently. The
contest was sponsored by the Huron District
Rebekahs and Oddfellows with all clubs
contributing money toward the top prize.
Students from Clinton, F.E. Madill Sec-
ondary
eo-ondary School, W ingham, the Seaforth
District High School and South Huron
Secondary School in Exeter competed in the
contest. Contestants were required to make a
five to seven minute speech.

Elmer Murray. The draw prize was won by
Doris Wilson and Florence Roustzon.

education, in international relationships and
world understanding, ever offered to high
school students. To enter contestants must be
aged 16 or 17.
Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodges located
along the route, which goes through Ottawa,
Montreal, Plattsburgh, New York, Albany,
New York, New York City, Philadelphia,
Washington, Gettysburg, Gary Mills, New
York, Niagara Falls and Toronto will extend
hospitality to the young people with meals,
lodging, sightseeing and entertainment.
Paulette Lippert of F.E. Madill in Wing -
ham, the runner-up in the local contest, spoke
on music. She will be expected to go on this
all -expense paid trip if Lisa is unable to go.
PEOPLE
Mrs. McQuaid, Madonna and Carol Ann,
of Seaforth, were present last week at the
final concert held at W ilfred Laurier Univer-
sity. Mrs. McQuaid's daughter, and Madon-
na and Carol Ann's sister Anne Marie plays
violin in the second chair of the University of
Western Ontario Symphony. '
Also present at the performance were
Ronald and .Mary Catherine Kostuik of
Toronto. Mary Catherine is Anne Marie's
oldest sister. All said it was an enjoyable
evening of music, by all Canadian composers.
Weekend visitors with Pat and Rose
Altman were their daughter, Doreen Bawers
and friends Florence and Edgar Stemmler of
Kitchener.
Dave and Eva Netzke were visitors on
Sunday also.
Friends and relatives of Edith M. Vincent
celebrated her birthday on April 10 at Lorne
Villa Apartments. Out of town guests were a
brother, Clifford C. Hunt of London and Lois
Sloane near Toronto.

WI makes donations
The Seaforth Women's Institute held its
annual meeting at the Orange Hall, with a
good attendance.
Mrs. Ross Gordon, president, opened the
meeting and conducted the business. Dona-
tions were given to several organizations
including a special prize to the Ladies
Division of the Seaforth Fall Fair.
Mrs, Ross Gordon -declared all offices
vacant and Mrs. James Keys read the report
of the nominating committee. Rachel Riehl
conducted the installation of officers. Past

OBITUARIES
GARY EARL GRAY
Gary Earl Gray of Seaforth died Sunday,
April 13, 1986 at the Seaforth Community
Hospital. He was 38.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, the
former Marlyn Eyre, son Terry and daughter
Becky, at home, and stepson Brian Lee, of
Ottawa.
Also surviving 'are his mother Margaret
Gray, brother Keith, of Seaforth and
parents-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Eyre
of Hensall.
He was predeceased by his father Earl
Gray.
Ft -lends will be received at the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Horne in Seaforth until 2 p.m.
today (Wednesday) when funeral services
will be held. Interment Maitlandbank Ceme-
tery.
HAROLD THOMPSON
Harold Thompson of Tillsonburg, died
Monday, April 7 , 1986. He was 61.
Mr. Thompson was the son of Joe
Thompson of Goderich and the late Elva
(Robinson) Thompson.
He is survived b,yhis wife Irene, son Phillip
(Butch) and daughters, Mrs. Robert (Alice)
Vallee; Mrs. Dan (Pat) Cotton, Mrs. Lloyd
(Peggy) Russell, and Dianne Lingaitis.
He is also survived by brothers, Ross and
Clare, asister, Mrs. John (Alice) Phillion and
nine grandchildren.

GATEY': Barry and Cindy (nee Dorssers) are
happy to announce the birth of their
daughter, Jenna Lynne on April 9, 1986 at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London. A little sister for
David and Laura.
ELLIOTT: Paul and Kathy of Brussels are
pleased to announce the birth of their second
daughter, Rachel Kathryn on March 14, 1986
at St. Joseph's Hospital, London weighing 10
pounds 14 ounces. A sister for Jeffery, Lesley

and great grandfather Wiliam Forster.
