There were five names added to the executive committee and two ladies are running for the position of secretary. The election of officers will be held April 17. Please keep the third Thursday of the month in mind for all general meetings of the branch with the exception of July and August. The meeting approved a $100 donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and $50 to the Fishing Derby to be held on the Saturday of the opening of the trout fishing season. This derby has proved very popular for the boys and girls of the community. The Legion was pleased with an article on the Legion in a recent issue of the London Free Press. The article was well researched and after reading it local Legion members agree the Legion is definitely at the crossroads. The average age of the veteran is now at 67. There will have to be sweeping changes in the future even with associate members now being 50 per cent of the Legion membership in many cases. If the Legion is to survive with the same principles on which it has been founded, one can only ponder what the year 2,000 will bring when the average age of World War II veterans will be 81. The Zone Spring Convention was held last Sunday in Brussels with 64 members attending plus about 19 officers from the District present. Ewan McGregor won the draw for the Jubilee diamond ring. Mr. McGregor is from Kincardine. Comrade Steve McGuire, Depu- ty Zone Commander, reported the draw was a THE HURON EXPOSITOR, MARCH 26, 1986 — A18. Congratulations to membership chairman Al Nicholson and his committee for their hard work in this campaign. Hensall received a plaque for a 10 per cent increase in their membership. A $100 dollar donation was approved by the meeting to the "Timmy Telethon" being televised over W ingham on Sunday after- noon. Bill Smith, provincial president, was featured on the program as well. Approval was granted to the Clinton Branch to host a Lone Invitational Golf Tournament on Sun- day, May 25 at the Bayview Golf Club. This is to be in conjunction with the ending of the Diamond Jubilee year, which officially ends with the convention in Edmonton on June 12. The first 100 entries will be accepted. Attendance was down at the last stag euchre owing to the hockey game last Wednesday. There will be one more. on Wednesday, April 2. Cribbage will be announced next week.
