Inquest decision expected soon
The Hun County Coroner's office is friend.
expected to announce within a few days
whether or not there will be an inquest into
the traffic death of a 14 -year-old Brussels
area boy, early Sunday morning.
Herbert B. Pomeroy, of RR 3, Brussels,
died when the all -terrain vehicle he was
driving on a Grey Township sideroad collided
head-on with a nick -up truck driven by his
Pomeroy was at a farmhouse alone with a
15 -year-old friend on Saturday night when he
took the vehicle without permission, said
police.
His freind then took a pickup truck to look
for Pomeroy when some time lapsed and he
had not returned.
Police said, on the third pass along the
sideroad, about eight kilometres east of
Brussels, the two boys met head-on, about
12:15 a.m.
Pomeroy is believed to have died instantly
of massive head injuries. The truck driver
was knocked unconscious for a time, revived
and went to the farmhouse to call for help.

Rebekah Lodge holds casserole euchre

The Morningstar Rebekah Lodge had a
good attendance at its casserole supper and
euchre last week.
Winners of euchre were high lady, Ethel
Brewer; high man, Ralph Pearson, low lady,
Sarah Stephenson, low man, Ross Cunning-
ham, lucky chair Freda Pipe. The draw for a
floral basket was won by Ross Cunningham.
MISSI®NARY SOCIETY
Margaret McLeod opened the March
meeting of the Melville Women's Missionary
Society. Ruby Steiss read the secretary's
report.
The Presbyterial is to meet on May 12 at 2
p.m. with Isobel Gibson to give the in
memoriam.
Evelyn Mair gave the financial report and
took up the collection. It was dedicated by
Mrs. McLeod. Evelyn Mair read from the
Glad Tidings. Ruth Martin read a paper that
had been prepared by Besie Moses on the Last
eight days of Jesus' life,
Mrs. Steiss lead in prayer.
AUXILIARY H OSIS EUCHRE
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Brussels
hosted a euchre party recently. It was well
attended with 10 tables in play.
The following were the winners: high lady,
Edna Prior; high man, Willis Knight; low
lady, Vera Hastings; low man, Jim McTag-
gart; travelling lone hand, Vera Hastings; •
most zeros, lady, Verna Tunney; most zeros •
men, Gordon Nichol; lucky cup, Martha
Logan; door prize, Wilda Baillie; draw on
groceries, Julie Jutzi and dutch auction, Fred
Hunter.•
NURSING HOMENEWS
Rev. Carpentier and a group from his
congregation of the Brussels United Church
held the weekly service for the residents of
Callander Nursing Home.
Dorothy Higgins attended the funeral of
her cousin Kenneth Wheeler of Belgrave.
Sympathies were extended to Dorothy.
Monday afternoon the residents played
bingo, and in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Doug
Purdy of the Salvation Army were present.
On Tuesday card games were enjoyed as
well as entertainment by Donald Dunbar on
the piano.
The Walton W omen's Institute hosted the
monthly birthday party on Thursday. Those
celebrating March birthdays were: Ivy Kelly,
John McMurray, Frances O'Keefe and Lottie
McCutcheon. Gifts were presented to each.
The program, which consisted of a solo by
Margaret Shortreed, Phyllis Mitchell on the
violin and Freda Pipe on the piano, featured
old time tunes enjoyed by all. Leanne
McDonald, Laura McKercher and Lindsay
Devereaux delighted everyone with their step
dancing, 'while little Laura Devereaux did a
little dance of her own. Mrs. Pipe and Mrs.

The March meeting of the Cranbrook
Women's Institute which was cancelled due
to inclement weather, was held last Monday
at the home of the president, Mrs. John
Vanass.
Minutes were read and a committee was
put in to look after the Rathwell-Hicks
wedding.
The Institute is still collecting Zehrs tapes
and thank all who have saved their tapes.
The President reminded all committees to
have their reports ready for the annual
meeting in April.
Mrs. Jim Hart reported on a recent
executive meeting.
The lunch committee served coffee and
fruit loaf.
ANNUALMEETWG
The Huron District Council annual meeting
was held at Kinbum, March 18. Eleven
members from Court Woodbine M100
attended. Total attendance was 30.
District Deputy Brother Jack Conley
elected the officers for the coming year.

Thursday Lottie McCutcheon enjoyed supper
with Judy Hahn.
Donald Dunbar played some oldies on the
piano on Friday.
HORTICULTUILAL MEETING
Eighteen members of the Brussels and
District Horticultural Society enjoyed a St.
Patrick's Day meeting,
W ilrna Hemingway played the piano and
the president, Alice McArter, read a poem.
The secretary, Isobel Gibson, read the
minutes of the January meeting followed by
the correspondence.
The treasurer's report was given by Jean
Bewley and auditor Peggy Cudmore reported
the books from last year were found correct,
Ila Mcf-artY told about two meetings she
had attended as representative of the society.
The first, held in Seaforth, gave suggestions
for the district annual. The second, held in
Owen Sound, finalized those plans.
The following announced their intention of
attending the District Annual in Owen Sound
on April 12; Alice McArter, Ila McLarty, Jane
White and Isobel Gibson.
Jean Bewley showed an interesting array
of slides showing the Irish countryside. It was
a particularly suitable choice for St. Patrick's
Day.

Whitfield. Hostesses, Peggy Cudmore, Shir-
ley Wheeler and Florence McArter served

The Hall Board are having another euchre
Thursday evening, March 27 at 8:30.
PEOPLE
Mrs. Patrick Adams and children. Mano-
tick, visited during the March break with her
parents Clare and Mrs. Veitch. Janet was
home from London for the weekend.
Ken Miller is able to be home following a
stay in Queensway Hospital, Toronto. Jodi
Miller, Sudbury was home on the weekend.
Sharon Engel, London and Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Engel and Joel Elliot, Kitchener,
attended the Paddyfest celebration in Usto-
wel and visited their mother, Mrs. Gordon
Engel. Paul participated in the arm wrest-
ling, winning in three categories.
Brussels receives grant
The village of Brussels received word
recently they are to be the recipients of a
$14,1.32 grant.
The grant, awarded by the Ministry of
Tourism and Recreation, will be used to cover
operating costs of a swimming pool currently
under construction in the village. Such costs
