Superintendent retires (Continued from Page A4) one that has kindergarten children writing - is "fantastic" according to the retiring superin- tendent. POSITIVE ASPECTS "It's more meaningful for the small child," he said. His appointment as superintendent of program and the expansion of the French program to Grade 4 have been positive aspects of his educational career. There have been lows too and one such time was when the board of trustees turned down a French immersion program. "It should be reconsidered," he said, although he admitted it wouldn't be feasible for both the public and separate school board to offer such a program. With no definite plans for his retirement, Mr. Thompson doesn't expect much spare time. Besides a hobby of restoring historical automobiles, the superintendent is fond of woodworking. And there's still more. "I enjoy putting things together with words," he said indicating there may be a writing career or at least a few projects. He and his wife Marion intend to stay in Stratford. "I was disappointed when that organiza- tion was unable to survive," he said. Accolades from trustees have been spon- taneous and Mr, Thompson appreciates such remarks. He has many years ahead of him to achieve some further goals.
