There were 11 ladies present. Mrs. Hugh Johnston and Mrs. Martin Baan lead in devotions. Mrs. Johnston spoke on her topic about kindness. Business was dealt with by the President Karen Hoegy. Margaret Craig read the minutes.. A thank you letter and a donation were received by the McDonald families and one from the Callendar Nursing Home. Dates were brought from the general United Church Women executive meeting. World Day of Prayer is March 7 at Brussels Catholic Church. March 18 is the Grandma's Quilting Party at Hensall United Church. The Thankoffering is set for April 20 at 2 p.m. and the Music Night is May 4 with the Clinton High School Choir to be present. Members were in favor of starting gifts for U.C.W. Presidents. Dates for Blyth supper were announced and the U.C.W. will cater to a wedding meal in August. The barbecue date set for this unit is June 28. A social half hour followed with refresh- ments served by Maxine Houston and the hostess, CHURCH NEWS Greeting worshippers Sunday morning at Duff's United Church were Harvey and Margaret Craig. Margery Huether was organist for the hymns. Bonnie Lamble conducted the service. She will not be here for March 9 but there will be church at the usual time along with Sunday School. The sermon was "Land of Promise" and Don McDonald contributed the solo, "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Raft's photo Hullett council approves grant Hullett Township Council has approved a grant of $1,500 to the Auburn lions Club, toward the construction of a new building on township property. The grant will go to the Hullett recreation committee, designated to the lions Club. The grant was made in response to a request for funds from lions representatives Fred Lawrence and George Collins, who attended a special meeting of council on February 18. Council also approved compensation total- ling $1,050 for Charlie Snell, for his sheep, which were attacked by dogs. Mr. Jeffery recommended council budget a substantial amount for reserves in 1986, Mr. Jefferyalso pointed out tax arrears are considerably higher than in other years, with arrears making up 18 percent 'of the total 1985 tax roll. in 1985 the arrears were 11 per cent and in 1983, they were 13 per cent. Council also discussed, but made no decision on a recommendation from Ontario Hydro to replace some of the older street lights. as parts for the older lights are becoming difficult to purchase. Hydro suggests high pressure sodium righting, which produce more watts than the mercury vapour ligrlts or fluorescent lights and have a projected life span of six years. Ratepayers will bear6o per tet of the cost of replacement. A public meeting will be held before any decision is made. Council renewed the contract with Arteeka Canine Control, Mount Forest, with the fee for regular patrols increased from $35 to $40 per month.
