New poets sought for national contest
A national poetry contest has been
launched to discover new talented writers in
the area.
The event, known as Poetry '86, is
sponsored by Fame Canada Enterprises
which will award more than $4,300 in prizes,
The 45 best poems, along with biographical
details of the newly -discovered poets, will be
published in a book to be released this fall,
Everyone who enters the contest will be
acknowledged in the book in some way.
"The aim of this event is to promote and
preserve Canadian poetry." says Fame

whose futuristic book Pill 2000 will be out this
spring;

The prizes include cash awards of $1,000
for the best poem, $500 for second, $400 for
third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth, In
addition there are regional bonuses and a
special $500 scholarship bonus for the best
poem submitted by a young poet who was 17
or younger as of January 1, 1986.

The contest is open to amateur poets of any
age. There is a $10 entrance fee for each
poem submitted,
Entries are to be typed or handprinted on
ane side of a single page and submitted to,
Poetry 86, Suite 321, 622 Sheppard Ave.
West, Toronto, Ontario, M3H 2F1. Two
copies of each poem should be sent with
name, address, phone number and birthday
at the upper right hand corner of the page,

On Monday residents went bowling at
Nobles with Pat Ryan winner, On Tuesday
public school volunteers helped residents
with bowling and the winner was Cassie
Nicholson.
Thursday afternoon volunteers came and
played euchre .with the residents. W inners
were Pat Ryan, Irene Omand, Ed Dunn and
Cassie Nicholson. Consolation winners were
James Nolan and Edith Salo.
On Friday residents played bingo in the
morning and in the afternoon Shirley Luther
of the Salvation .Army held a sing along.
Helpers were Erlene Stewart and Linda
Hart, Hensall.

Allan Nicholson visited mother Cassie
Nicholson.
Leo O'Sullivan went home with brother

Harold and Beryl Nicholson were in to visit Marjorie Maloney
Cassie before they leave for Florida. . Maloney.
Russel and Rita Smith of Dublin visited her Peg Lemon of Sarnia and Mary Kennedy
cousin. Mary Ryan. visited Dorothy Carter.
JORDAN: Gerald and Nancy are pleased to
announce the safe arrival of Sarah Anne born
at Stratford General Hospital, January 24,
1986 weighing 6 lbs. 14 oz. Proud grandpar-
ents are Mrs. Bernadette Jordan of Mitchell
and Joseph and Anne Van Dooren of
Seaforth.
SEGEREN: Jim and Lorie are pleased to
announce the' arrival of Brittany Anne on
January 21, 1986 at Clinton Public Hospital.

Sale at the Ontario Public Stockyards In Toronto. Darling's Abbatolr, Exeter bought the 1250
Ib. calf for $1.85 per pound.. ShoWn Is Bill Armstrong presenting Mike with the Richey, Faye
and Armstrong trophy.
Junior Farmers play euchre at Legion
The winners of the Seaforth Junior Eva McCartney, Agnes Schade, Mrs. Broad -
Farmers card party held on January 28 at the foot, Grace Smith, Muriel McLachlan and
Seaforth Legion were: Hazel McNaughton. Edna Hackwell.

MARIE LOUISE MELADY
Marie Louise 'Melady, of RR 2, Dublin,
died W edneeday, January 29, at the Seaforth
Community Hospital, after a lengthy illness,
She was 77 -years -old.
Born in McKillop Township, Mrs. Melady
(nee Murray) married Joseph Melady on
Jun 26. 1937, at St. Columban Church. Mr.
Melady died in 1955. She was also prede-
ceased by three sisters: Mary Ann, Elizabeth
(Mrs Wilfred Maloney), Helen (Mrs. Wil-
fred O' Rourke ) and six brothers Joseph, Leo,
Thomas. John, Michael and Matthew.
She is survived by one sister Camilla
(Millie) (Mrs. Frank Evans of Dublin, one
brother Steve, of RR4, Walton and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Mrs Melady attended S S. No. fe Manley
School. McKillop Township. then went on to
attend Dublin Continuation School and
Stratford Normal School.
A teacher for 34 years, she taught at S S.
No. 8 Manley School. S.S. No. 10 Logan, S.S.
No. 4 Hibbert and St. Columban School. She
retired from teaching in 1974, but continued
to keep in touch with her former students
throughout the years..
She was a member of the Sl. Columban
Roman Catholic Church all her life.
After resting at the W hitney-Ribey Funeral
Home, a funeral service was held February 1,
at SL Columban Church. with Reverend
Andrew Sipek of St. Columban, assisted by
Reverend J.J Carrigan. Dublin and Joseph
Hicknell, of Sl Peter's Seminary.
Mrs. Mary tau Malone, Lucien and Frank
Crowley. RR 5. Seaforth, gave the readings.
St Columban Adult Choir was present.
In recognition of Mrs Melody's dedication
to school children. the students and leachers
from St Columban School formed a guard of
honor at the entrance to the church. The
ladies of the Catholic Women's League were
in attendance as a body.
Flower bearers were John and Joe Looby,
Mark and Stephen Stapleton. Jim Vander
Pryt. Kurt MacRae.
Honorary pallbearers were Jack ' O'Reilly.
Fergus Feeney, Ted Doyle. John O'Leary,
Joe Barry and Mike MacRae
Pallbearers were. Pat Feeney. Bill Feeney.
Gerald .Jordan. Pat 0' Reilly. Tom Burke. Ken

Burial will take place in the spring at St

Friends were received at the Whitney.
Rlbey Funeral Home in Seaforth until
Monday when a mass was held at St
Columban Roman Catholic Church.
Spring burial will be in St Columban
Cemetery Parish pr=ayers were held at the
funeral home on Sunday.
