Centenaires lead league in scoring ,stets
Statistics released January 7, by the
Ontario Hockey Association give. a clear
indication of the reasons the Seaforth
Centenaires continue to lead the Western
Junior t) Group 2 league and are tied with
L.ucan for first place overall.
In Group 2. which includes Seaforth,
Brussels. Tavistock. Clinton. Mitchell and
Howick, the Centenaires boast three of the
top four scorers in the group, plus the best
goalt t niter,
Seaforth net minder Keith McClure. having
allowed just 61 goals in 18.5 games. posted
the best goals -against average of 3.30 goals
per gyne. Mike Smith of Brussels Bulls is
second with an average of 3,77, while
Tavistock's Scott McCarrfi is third with a4.32
average.
In the offense department: Centenaire's
Jim Campb('ll leads the group in scoring with
36 goals, :3o assists and 66 points, while Jerry
W right is second with 30 goals. 30 assists and
60 points. Both players have played in 25 of
the club's 28 games up to January 7. Kevin
McArlor. of Bnissels is in third place with 52
points in 25 games. Dave Murray, of
Seaforth. despite having played in only 17
games holds down fourth spot with 20 goals.
29 assists and 49 points. Kevin Melady, of
Seafnrlh. Is also in the top 10, with 22 goals
and 14 assists, for36 points. good for seventh
place on the list.
The team's recprd of 20 wins, five losses
and three ties. gives them 43 points and a
four -point bulge over second place Brussels
in Group 2.Onl<' Wean, leading Group 1 with
record of 19 wins, four losses and five ties,
have as many points as the Centenaires.

In recent actio'), Seaforth swept a home
and home series with the Clinton Mustangs,
winning 6-3 in Seaforth on January 7, and
whomping the Mustangs 8-1 on January 12,
in Clinton.
Dave Murray, with two goals, two assists,
led the team in scoring on January 7, as
Seaforth scored twice in the first frame, three
times in the second period and once in the
third, while the Mustangs managed only one
goal per period. John Dale collected a goal
and three assists in the game. Jim Campbell
had a goal and two assists and Tom Turner

on this weekend

The Seaforth Optimist Club will be holding
their 13th ANNUAL W INTER CARNIVAL
this weekend (Jan, 17, 18, 19) with the main
event being the Atom Tournament to be held
at the arena all weekend. Jack Bedard,
tournament director reports that there will be
26 teams from Southwestern Ontario partici-
pating in the tournament. Seaforth plays
their first game on Saturday morning January
18 at 8:00 a.m. against New Hamburg. The
weekend proves to be filled with good fun,
exciting hockey. The rest of the carnival is
shaping up quite nicely with events such as:
.Teen Dance, Friday, January 17, 8:00
p m.. Arena,
Snow Sculpturing, Saturday, January 18,
9:00 a.m. • 12:00 noon at the Arena.
•Adult Dance featuring Kopy Katz, 8:00
p, m. to 1:00 a.m. at Arena. Lunch provided.
-rriigg Country Ski Poker Rally, Sunday,
January 19 Registration 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at
' the Van Egmond House. Everybody enjoy
themselves.

it looks like GYMNASTICS is going to start
in early February. Plans are not yet finalized
hut we are looking to run the program at the
Il,gh School on Saturday mornings from
lona a m. to 12:00 noon. U anyone is

Every Thursday in January wiil be FLLhI
DAY at the Library. The filrns will start at
4 00 p m and go until approximately 5:30
p m Next film will be on Thursday, January
16 and is called "Pippy in the South Seas."

Seaforth.
Jim Campbell scored a hal Irick in the
.January 12 game. while Dave Murray scored
twice and assisted on three others. Dave
Akey scored one goal and assisted on two and
Dan Wesenberg added a goal.
Four of the Sealorlh goals came on the
power play. while Akey's goal came.with the
Centenaires playing short-handed.

Akey is back with the Centenaires, after
playing most of the season with the Listowel
Cyclones Junior B team, The Cyclones are in
last place in their league and destined to
finish out of the playoffs, so they agreed to
return
Akeyto the Centenaires for the stretch
drive and playoff's.
The addii inn of Akey, who will whin' to the
('}clones next season unless he makes a
Junior A club. should strengthen the
l'entenaire defense, said trainer Bob Grid-
zak. '

Saturday 17-1.
Scoring for Seaforth was Mike Devereaux
with three goals and three assists, Mike Watt
with three goals and two assists, Joe Murray
with three goals. Mike Moylan with two
goals, Brad Moore with one goal, Boyd
Devereaux with one goal. Wayne Schoonder-
woe d with one goal and two assists and Mike
Weber with one goal and one assist.
